Hey, This is QuantumRX, and I'm going to be competing at MLG this year at the convention center (Tomorrow!!)Was wondering if anyone else will be competing at SC2 or at MLG in general this year. Who is spectating?Should be a blast. I went into the convention center today (covert ops) to scout out everything. They have over 200 SC2 stations! Going to be awesome. Can I say Bomber?GG GL HF

8/25/2011 7:33:45 PM
I wonder how much this is going to benefit the economy of Raleigh will all these big ballers throwing out stacks around downtown after the daily tourneys are over
8/25/2011 7:46:38 PM
Is this worth going to just to spectate? Not signing up to play anything.
8/25/2011 8:13:03 PM
sure, if you like wasting 25 bucks and never want to get laid. Although, there should be some interesting cute cosplay girls going of what I'm told...

having been to live events before, I can say it can be quite exciting with a big crowd if you're interested in the game and seeing it played. Being part of the crowd that oohs and aaas at the right times and understands whats going on and identifies good play vs bad play is much more enjoyable than you would think. But if you're just interested in being a twerp, or your brain can only handle games of a tecmo super bowl level, then you probably wont find much enjoyment.

been watching some of the games the last few games. entertaining as always.
8/27/2011 4:11:55 PM
I'm surprised how professional the broadcast is.
8/27/2011 4:20:31 PM
why would you be?
8/27/2011 4:48:09 PM
1. It's gaming.2. It guys doing the color are actually better than 75% of the guys calling our basketball and football games.3. It's gaming.4. It isn't just a low resolution stream of gameplay. It's really well put together and the website works really well interacting with the events. The only thing I can really compare it to is ESPN3ish events and it's on par with that even though it requires a lot less work. The private streams through gopack for football and basketball games are god awful compared to this.

I just got back. Some serious good matches between the Koreans. I plan on going in tomorrow to see the championship. Beats spending 200 to go to Blizzcon plus travel plus hotel. I think MLG will start taking off in the future and Raleigh of all places is lucky to receive this event.

when I was playing CS competitively world cyber gaming had a regional tournament in raleigh as well
8/27/2011 8:21:23 PM
^^^you don't realize how big those starcraft personalities are. there's a reason these guys are able to do this for a living.
8/27/2011 9:20:40 PM
Ran into some of these super-nerds the other night. They can't hold their liquor for shit.
8/27/2011 9:42:24 PM
Super hipster meets super nerd.Must've been riveting.[Edited on August 28, 2011 at 3:37 AM. Reason : .]

I have an extra spectator pass. PM me if you want it. I'll check my pm every few minutes for another hour.
8/28/2011 2:27:11 PM
Thoroughly enjoying this live stream.Thank you for this thread.
8/28/2011 2:59:50 PM
I too am surprised by the quality of this stream. I don't play Starcraft tho....are they just capturing a players screen or do the commentators have access to some type of special spectator mode
8/28/2011 3:10:21 PM
Casters just join the game as a spectator so they can choose what to see.
8/28/2011 3:40:48 PM
Any information on who is there / who is absent? The competitors seem so young, are there any other "major players" missing? Are these players legitimately the best of the best?[Edited on August 28, 2011 at 3:59 PM. Reason : .]
8/28/2011 3:57:14 PM
there are some koreans not present that are probably slightly better. But players like Puma, DRG, and Coca represent a top tier of talent. Its a very young person sport.
8/28/2011 4:05:41 PM
No, speaking just for Starcraft - the best players in the world are the Koreans. As shown from this tournament (and the past MLG as well) - the top 6 have all been Koreans. Not all the Koreans come to MLG, the best tournament in terms of pure skill of the players is GSL, which is 95% Koreans (and the foreigners in it don't usually do too well, highest foreigner finish was top 4). In regards to the Koreans who are at MLG, there are a few who are very very good even in the Korean scene, but they are not the best. Currently the GSL is in the middle of a season (goes for 1 month) so several of the GSL players who are still in the tournament (its currently in the top 8) chose not to come to MLG.
8/28/2011 4:10:02 PM
Interesting!Wait... nevermind.
8/28/2011 4:17:10 PM
What about the Black Ops players?
8/28/2011 4:17:30 PM
It looked like the pro black ops and halo players are your typical high school/college guys.
8/28/2011 8:22:24 PM
who cares about blops
8/28/2011 8:31:59 PM
noone, thats why it was off in the corner just like halo reach and their screens were used on the SC2 matches.

8/28/2011 10:10:28 PM
yeah I didnt omit Bomber on purpose.MMA, MvP, Nestea, etc are all at Bomber or above and Bomber really wasnt challenged much this MLG until he came up against the last couple koreans
