Especially the LSU fans in gold and purple pimp suits, but we are not going to the SEC

State to the SEC is never gonna happen.

Maybe not, maybe a chance. Either way it's fun to discuss argue.I'm for it if we get offered, I look at it this way: You can be a good basketball team in any conference, but the top football programs are in the best conferences. I also think we have been unable to compete with Duke/UNC in bball for the last 20 years, so why not, it's not like we're competing for the ACC title anyway.

How can anyone ever be for this? We would never go to another bowl game.

Worse academics?Worse basketball recruiting?Harder to make a bowl game?Every football and basketball pro of moving has a con in the other sport]

You can't break up Tobacco Road.

I hate all of this expansion. One thing that makes college sports so great are the rivalries. Now Oklahoma and Nebraska aren't even in the same league anymore. Texas could end up in a different league than TEXAS A&M. The SWC already broke up. Colorado to the Pac-10 lol!

The SEC had more NCAA Tourney teams than the ACC did last year.Would our basketball recruiting really suffer? I thought that duke and unc-cheat kept us from getting recruits and coaches? Now it helps us? I'm confused. If NC State joined the SEC, we would lock down this state for football talent. Players like DJ Humphries or Keith Marshall wouldn't have to leave NC to play against the best. NC produces a lot of talent, so you can't tell me that wouldn't instantly help recruiting and the football program.

Last time i checked Harrison Barnes is from Iowa and Kyrie Irving grew up in New JerseyI figured if he was using the SEC as being able to recruit better in football, then the ACC would be able to recruit better in basketball(unless you're blatantly cheating like Calipari)We couldn't sell basketball recruits on the idea that they're playing in arguably the top basketball conference in the nation and going up against teams like UNC and Duke, or the fact that we were as instrumental as any other school in creating the conference in the first place[Edited on August 14, 2011 at 1:07 AM. Reason : v VT has no television market?]
8/14/2011 1:04:18 AM
The SEC is after money and television markets. They will not come after a North Carolina School. We don't offer a big enough TV market like FSU does. That's the same reason why they will not go after VT. VT has no television market for the SEC to take control of. College athletics is sadly about the money now.

^agree

I do not want us to join the SEC.Fuck. That. Shit. That being said, I would think we would be a better choice over Florida St. if "untapped market share" is the goal of all this. The SEC already has a foothold in Florida. Meanwhile it has no presence in NC. I'm not sure which school offers the bigger alumni base, but I would think people in FL who watch Florida St. probably already tune in to catch Florida or Georgia or LSU play anyway.
