Got an 08' car in April, 2011. Just got the tax form. Says I owe $206.30 "Year For 2010 Tax Year 2011". Is this just how the fiscal tax year works? I don't want to pay car taxes for 2010 if I got the car in 2011. Also it says the assessed value of the car is $13,590 but KBB says $21,660. What's with that.

haha yeah I was about to say I'm ok paying less taxes. Was just wondering. I got it for $19,200 plus a re-certified 24k/2yr warranty after the factory is up (50k, at 46 now). So I'm happy. Was just wondering where they got the price from.

I think it's just based on the average value of a vehicle of that make/model. If you have a top of the line model car where most people buy the entry level version, you might have an assessed value less than what you paid for it/what it's actually worth with all the fancy features. If you have the shit version, you might get an assessed value that is much higher than what you could ever get for your car even if you sold it yourself.

car taxes are where you buy a car and the gubment charges you for using it on the highway when you buy it, then they charge you for using it on the highway every time you put fuel in it, and then, once a year, they charge you simply for owning it

do NADA on your car with no options... that's usually what they use. kbb is worthless on anything but buying a car. keep in mind if you wreck your car that 13,590 is probably going to be the first number an insurance company offers you in hopes you'll take it.

^You hit the nail on the head. Looked it up on nadaguides. Rough Trade-In: $13,500Average Trade-In: $14,675Clean Trade-In: $15,625Clean Retail: $18,475For the base model. With the extra trim the clean retail price matches KBB. I guess it's good the government goes with the lowest trade in price.

I love that every year I only get the "this is a final tax notice" letters in the mail 3 months after the fucking taxes are due. Why the hell have I never gotten the original tax bill? And for that matter, why have I never gotten registration renewal letters?
