Old thread is dead message_topic.aspx?topic=573400Sick of TWC's bullshit. Turning in my box and modem on Monday and looking into U-Verse (any other options? No Charter at my place, not that I'd want it), but their plans/prices don't really seem any better than TWC...is the stability/service good enough to make it worth the switch? Don't get me wrong, not giving one more penny to them is enough of a reason for me, but for practicality's sake let's compare the two as if TWC wasn't Satan's own endeavor. Since I'm going back to school I don't plan on watching much (or any) TV, so I was looking at the 80-channel/DVR and 3Mbps package for $49 (for 6 months, then $92). I'm worried that the internet will be too slow, any of you have any experience with this setup?]
8/5/2011 10:47:49 PM
Am I the only person who's never had an issue with TWC? I get digital cable with Showtime and the sports package with the 30mbps/5mbps Road Runner package, and I think my bill is like $124 after taxes.
8/5/2011 10:52:23 PM
I dropped cable TV a while back, and I don't miss it much. I would like to find a more affordable internet provider, as TWC has jacked up my rate to $65 a month for the standard road runner. This thread is relevant to my interests.

there's like a 30 page thread on this in tech talk
8/5/2011 10:53:36 PM
^^You're doin' it wrong, dawg.
8/5/2011 10:54:21 PM
I don't want to have to negotiate! I fucking HATE calling TWC. I am an easygoing person, but being on the phone with those people always sours my mood.
8/5/2011 10:56:13 PM
screw twc. go with charter. basically the same thing. dont go to uverse att is a worse company believe it or not and they offer inferior services on top of that.
8/5/2011 11:22:34 PM
twc internet at 30mbps/5mbps for $55/month and directv with everything and hd dvr for ~$55/month including sunday ticket.

8/6/2011 12:48:44 AM
my folks went with u-verse and it SUCKED. big time. yes, you had a DVR, but only in one room, and all the boxes share the same TV lines, so if the DVR is recording on all of them, you can't use any of the other boxes. Oh, and it doesn't warn you on the other boxes. It just shuts the box down.
8/6/2011 1:46:56 AM
uh none of that is trueit will tell you that all sources are being used and let you switch to one of the channels that is being recordedthe DVR is in one spot, but can be accessed from any box in the house; on any tv.[Edited on August 6, 2011 at 2:08 AM. Reason : *]

So basically I'm choosing between a giant douche and a turd sandwich
8/6/2011 2:53:00 AM
I've had Uverse Internet since I moved into the house and it's never been down. Any time my Internet was out was because of something I did.I enjoyed the TV service but the pq wasn't as good as DirecTV, so I let it go.
8/6/2011 4:05:36 AM
Man, it sounds like some of y'all want your cable providers to suck your dicks and make you breakfast too- we have uverse and it is worlds better than TWC... I think we might be paying a little much right now but we just need to call and talk to retention
8/6/2011 6:15:57 AM
I less than three my sweet sweet fios
8/6/2011 10:13:04 AM
I have U-verse and after 2 attempts to fix it they got it right and I have had no problemsAT&T worked with me when lightening struck my modem the first time would go with, or Charter as a second - screw TWC
8/6/2011 10:57:51 AM

Does anyone have any recent experiences with uverse for tv and internet? I've only ever had time warner, and haven't experienced any major issues with them, but uverse is cheaper at the moment and has a few more features than twc. Any tips or warnings before I sign up with them?
2/14/2013 11:12:12 AM
I've had horrible luck with our TWC, but a treeline blocks our few of the South, so we can't switch to DirectTV, which we loved. How is U-verse?
2/14/2013 11:13:29 AM
no complaints with Uverse, still happy as can bewe had some issues when we moved with transferring the service to our new house, HUGE pain in the ass (not normal I take it), but they made everything good and have been very helpful. would recommend. MILES beyond TWC in pretty much every way I can think of.also, addressing my concern in the OP, the internet is plenty fast and I actually get the speeds I'm paying for, unlike TWC. I've had U-Verse for two years not in Charlotte without a single problem.I've never paid for HBO/Cinemax once as you can add/remove from your susbscription online every 3 months and never pay for it. so for 3 months i'll have HBO, then HBO/Cinemax, then back to HBO. the lowest internet (3mbs) is ok. I can still stream netflix, play ps3, and download a torrent. but it starts to struggle when multitasking or watching YouTube videos. I moved up to the next level internet because of an offer that made it the same price as the 3mbs for 6 months. It's a lot better.I only have 1 TV, so DVR usage is never an issue. I pay about $140 a month now that all of my initial offers have expired. ]

I got sick of TWC so I got U-Verse a year and a half ago. I have never had a single problem. The internet is fast and the customer service is amazing. We have 3 DVR boxes, the fastest internet, all HD channels, all sports channels (had to have outdoors and sportsman channels), and all the premium movie channels and we pay 140 a month. Well worth it.
2/14/2013 11:25:57 AM
you pay $140 for all of that!?!? do you call retention every six months to complain and get your price lowered?]
2/14/2013 11:26:44 AM
you just need to flip the premium channels off and on every few months

Good info. Thanks for the input!Doe anyone use the wireless receiver? Is it worth the one time $49 fee?
2/14/2013 12:05:43 PM
Yeah I just got one and I love it. Stupid I have to pay $50 for something that I'm renting, but whatever. I used it during the Super Bowl to allow for more viewers and it worked great. I'm looking forward to setting up a TV on the deck in the warmer months.
2/14/2013 1:01:28 PM
It seems that I will be unable to get uverse at my new home per their website

2/14/2013 2:11:37 PM
Do you mind breaking down what your exact services/packages are?
2/14/2013 2:32:48 PM
^ According to my bill it is the U450 bundle and the high speed internet max internet option
2/14/2013 2:54:54 PM
i have had both TWC and U-verse, and have to say i'm indifferent between the two. u-verse has better customer service, but is a little more expensive. the big downside to u-verse is only being able to watch HD in one room...you have to choose to "interrupt" another tv if someone else already has HD on elsewhere. can't stand that.
2/14/2013 3:11:20 PM
2/14/2013 3:12:52 PM
^^how is that even an issue in today's world of technology?]
2/14/2013 3:13:21 PM
we can watch the same HD channel in both rooms, otherwise it always makes me interrupt another tv. it brings up a menu and wont let me proceed until i choose to switch to sd, interrupt a tv, or choose a recording.[Edited on February 14, 2013 at 3:19 PM. Reason : ^^page not found]
2/14/2013 3:19:08 PM
I'll test that tonight, but I've never seen that. You sure you aren't recording HD programs at the same time? The info given below doesn't mesh with what you're reporting.http://forums.att.com/t5/Receivers-Battery-Backup/How-many-HD-programs-can-I-record-and-watch-simultaneously/td-p/2676945
2/14/2013 3:48:40 PM
i see it now, and that simply is not the case for our tv.AND, in the rare event we record shows, we have to watch the show to record it in HD. (iirc) neither of us really watch enough tv to make an issue of this, and we just thought it was the same for everyone.i don't know anything about our plan, my roommate has it under her name. she probably popped for the absolute cheapest hd option since it costs extra with u-verse.[Edited on February 14, 2013 at 3:57 PM. 2/14/2013 3:56:56 PM
There's only one HD options and it's $10 a month
2/14/2013 4:00:10 PM
i'm at home for lunch. i just tried recording a random show and changing the channel. any other hd channel i try to watch brings up an official at&t screen that says "all hd services are in use. please select an option."sounds like my service is messed up, and that my system thinks i'm using all 4 at once.
2/14/2013 4:06:11 PM
^yeah you need to call somebody
2/14/2013 4:07:12 PM
i think it depends on the infrastructure in your area how many simultaneous streams you can view/recordi remember it being a big deal that it was bumping from 3 to 4 because of infrastructure upgrades, or something to that effect
