Did anybody ever have this guy in any ECE classes? He got shit canned over the summer and he isn't teaching anything anymore. Seems like the general consensus was that people didn't like the guy.

I had him for 200, which he really sucked at. When I had him again for 435, I thought he was actually pretty decent and fair

When I had him for 435 he was late pretty much everyday.

...and by late, I mean 20-30 minutes late.

yep. I took him for 435 several summers ago.

He was always late to class.

He always seemed like he was on medications.

He would do this thing where he'd suddenly stop lecturing, pull a handkerchief out of his pocket, blow his nose, and then stick it back in its pocket.

He also fucked up at graduation and called my name at the end of the masters' students (i was supposed to be the first on the list of undergrads).

I had him for an honors ece200, I think that was the course number. At the end of the semester he realized he needed to do something to differentiate our class from the regular class so came up with this cobbled together lab last minute. That sucked but overall I liked the guy, he told me it was ok to end sentences with a preposition.

I had him for both 435 and 436 as well as a 492K senior class and ECE 200.
He was pretty good IMHO.

Why did he get canned?

^ im going to assume you had him before he was pensioned.

in 435 he'd hand out xeroxed copies of his notes with a few random words and numbers blanked out so you could "fill in the blanks" along the way during lecture. when he ran out of time (due to him showing up to class late), we were left to figure out what those blanks were and in the end his "notes" were never useful for hw or exams.

I remember that he could never really answer your question on the spot. He was always like I can't think of that off the top of my head and say he'd get back to us about it after he had some time to think it through.

Oh and you could never really tell if he was joking or not. He would attempt something witty and fail horribly at it cuz all he got from the 435 class was blank stares and silence.

he probably got canned because of how much he pooted in class... very noticeable in a small class like 435 when you sat in the front, they were loud too

I was an IEEE student branch officer, in the early 2000s, JJB was like Department Head of ECE. so i had to interact with him more than a typical undergrad-professor way, what with using facilities and arranging guests, and there were improvements to the undergrad lounge in Daniels Hall at the time that IEEE was sort of managing.

JJB was an odd cat. gave off an uncomfortable vibe.... talking to him was like talking to someone who was mostly disconnected and paying just barely enough attention to understand what you were saying so he could complete the transaction.

first i figured he just didnt like me or maybe undergrads in general, that interacting with such lowly people was distracting his intellect from some higher purpose..... but after a couple years i kind realized he was just weird and acted that way with everyone.

when he told jokes he also had a a quick little smile he'd flash and then hide again - and no one would laugh made me feel kinda bad for him

i went to his office once to see if I could get points back on a multi-part question where I had some elementary math mistake at the beginning and he gave me the points - he talked to me for like an hour and I didn't really know how to leave, but I guess he's pretty cool -- just somehow disconnected from his classes
