Long time LunarPages user. Very little down time and great customer service. I host about 12 different websites on my single hosting account.

Referral:
http://www.lunarpages.com/id/syprus3/goto/basic-hosting/

I typically renew every 2 years for $6.95/mo

I host with SoftLayer (dedicated), HostGator (VPS), and MediaTemple (Shared "Grid Service")

No issues with any of them.

^^ Tell me more. I don't think I've ever used support but I can't image a lot of benefits at $1/mo. *edit* went ahead and signed up to look through. so far I don't see anything negative for my ultimately simple needs

Dreamhost & Hostgator for me thus far but I'll probably drop it altogether soon.

https://www.lithiumhosting.com has a $1/month plan that's more fully-featured

[Edited on July 26, 2011 at 12:19 AM. Reason : $10 for a year if you pay in advance]

my crazy awesome dreamhost deal runs out at the end of december/early january and i need another crazy awesome deal

i host 6 or 7 sites, but none of them are high traffic, though most of them have a database associated with them...i occasionally use them for file storage, but not a whole lot, so anything 10GB and over should be fine

i'm happy enough with dreamhost, but i don't think they offer great deals for renewals, just for new customers

^ again, the problem is that i have 6-7 sites...none of them are especially high bandwidth, but if i'm going to pay $7+/month for the domains individually, i might as well get one of any number of $7-8/month unlimited plans (which also usually come with more features and support)

in case anyone cares, bluehost/hostmonster is $3.95/month (2-year contract, i went with 3-year just because) for unlimited everything

$142.20 for 3 years of basic reseller hosting (which i needed for my 7 - soon to be 8 - domains, even if i'm not actually reselling anything) and a free domain...not bad, IMO

I have a reseller account through HostGator that I use to host my own stuff. I can host sites for dirt cheap and it's not a shoddy operation, it's HostGator hosting repackaged. So if you're interested in hosting PM me and I can probably beat whatever else you're looking at.

Quote :
"IMPORTANT INFORMATION: We are writing to let you know that there may have been illegal and unauthorized access to some of your passwords at DreamHost today. Our security systems detected the potential breach this morning and we immediately took the defensive precaution of expiring and resetting all FTP/shell access passwords for all DreamHost customers and their users. There are three different types of passwords at DreamHost: a web panel password (for logging into the panel), email passwords, and FTP/shell access passwords. Only the FTP/shell access passwords appear to have been compromised by the illegal access. Web panel passwords, email passwords and billing information for DreamHost customers were not affected or accessed. Refer to the following DreamHost status post for details: http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2012/01/20/changing-ftpshell-passwords-due-to-security-issue/.

IMPORTANT ACTION REQUIRED:

To create a new FTP/shell access password for your DreamHost account, please login to your DreamHost web panel (https://panel.dreamhost.com/), select "Manage Users" in the top left, then select "Edit" next to each user and type in a new password. Make sure you click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.
We are also requesting that you change your email password. We are not enforcing this change at this time as we do not believe that email p asswords were compromised. However we strongly recommend that you change your email password as a precaution. To change the passwords for your email users or yourself, log into the DreamHost panel at (https://panel.dreamhost.com/), select "Manage Email" in the top left, select "Edit" next to each email user address, and choose a new password for each. Make sure you click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any additional questions about this process, please contact us through the support page in the panel.

Note that DreamHost will never ask you for personal or account information in an email. Please exercise caution if you receive any other emails that ask for personal information or direct you to a web site where you are asked to provide personal information.

Sincerely,

The DreamHost Team"

so what's the current best deal in dedicated/VPS hosting? I need a host that'll let me install Ubuntu 11.10, LAMP, and doesn't cost a ridiculous amount of money. I think I could probably get by with 512 MB of RAM. What do you guys recommend? Linode has a $20/month option that seems like the best option.
