man those 212° days are tough
7/24/2011 4:26:31 PM
I brace myself often. No heat wave needed. Although I usually do it alone in my bedroom with the door closed.
7/24/2011 4:27:25 PM
holy carlfacehow do these people get jobs?i know so many intelligent people that are fucking waiting tables because they can't land a real job, and these assholes are boiling water in the new york shade

7/24/2011 4:30:23 PM
ahahahahaha
7/24/2011 4:31:15 PM
near boiling point is sometimes bearable, but above boiling point is when i stay inside
7/24/2011 4:35:27 PM
I'll still get out for moderate physical activity near boiling point, but above boiling point the dehydration is terrible!
7/24/2011 4:42:32 PM
Boiling point temperatures really make my blood boil
7/24/2011 4:43:28 PM

yahoo, that bastion of journalistic excellencea few weeks ago they wrote about a soldier who received the Medal of Honor. yahoo said it was the second time in history that the award was given to a living person. But there are dozens of living recipients from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. It should have said he is the second living recipient from the Iraq/Afghanistan wars.
7/24/2011 5:39:37 PM
yahoo didn't write it
7/24/2011 5:40:40 PM
they sure didnt mind re-posting it
7/24/2011 5:41:40 PM

7/24/2011 6:04:11 PM
7/24/2011 8:16:04 PM
To be fair, they didn't say boiling point of water.
7/24/2011 9:16:20 PM
correct me if i'm wrong, but there are quite a few things that boil at or below 116F, right?Assuming my memory does in fact serve me right, this is really just a clever use of the term "boiling point" for a sensational title without actually lying.
7/24/2011 9:18:07 PM
So when the whether is around 30F outside I will say: "TEMPERATURES REACHING BOILING POINT"
7/24/2011 9:19:55 PM
oxygen boils at 90 Khelium boils at 4 K
7/24/2011 9:20:50 PM
Surely they were talking about the boiling point of ether, 95*F
7/24/2011 9:21:31 PM
Buy some sweaters, we're gonna have temperatures near the boiling point of helium!!!
7/24/2011 9:22:28 PM
Someone reading the headline is going to immediately run outside yelling "OH SHIT MY ETHER!"
7/24/2011 9:23:24 PM
ethyl bromide (101°F)[Edited on July 24, 2011 at 9:30 PM. Reason : so obvious it didn't require mentioning]
7/24/2011 9:29:20 PM
^^hahaha
7/24/2011 9:37:26 PM
I suppose we can presume that the author of the headline flunked CH 201 as a PAMS or Engineering major and switched to journalism (thinking smugly that s/he'd never have to use any of that absurd chemistry stuff)?Mandatory ACDC reference:Hells bellsHells bells, you got me ringingHells bells, my temperature's highHells bells
7/24/2011 9:47:23 PM
obviously this is a result of a low pressure system. They just neglected to mention that the barometric pressure dropped to 2.17 inHg
7/24/2011 10:24:51 PM
they got confused with celsius i guess
7/24/2011 10:25:47 PM

9/23/2013 12:05:25 PM
OMG THE CATS HAVE BEEN EATING THE DEPLETED URANIUM!
9/23/2013 12:14:35 PM
I lol'd at both, but the housecat mistake is way funnier
9/23/2013 12:15:08 PM
The only question anyone needs to ask is if the heat will kill the giant house cat? If not, we are all in trouble.
9/23/2013 12:16:51 PM
That's awesome!
9/23/2013 12:23:03 PM
They need to put that cat next to the overpass in Durham that people keep running into.We need mega kitty to teach drivers the importance of clearance height.
9/23/2013 12:24:44 PM
Ahaha that housecat made me lose it for a while. That's hilarious
9/23/2013 12:51:41 PM
That scale starts at 13'6"... the cat is sitting on top of the maximum height semi to illustrate the size of clearance gap between truck and bridge. Hint: its not big enough for the cat. Ya big dumbs
9/23/2013 4:09:28 PM
the man's got a point
9/23/2013 4:33:58 PM
Oh yeah, he's right. It took me a little while to figure that out.
9/23/2013 4:39:01 PM
If you think about it, what they're really illustrating is which trucks the cat could sit on without being decapitated.
9/23/2013 4:39:10 PM
No, it's showing which bridges the cat wouldt be decapitated under while riding on a maximum height truck (which is all of the bridges). That is a pretty confusing diagram. It makes sense, but it's hard.
9/23/2013 4:41:54 PM
About the OP, water boils at a 100, and they were talking about temps of 99, 103, 105, etc... So "near boiling point" fits the bill.^ yeah if it sits like that, it wouldn't survive any bridge. But seriously, if there was a cat on top of a moving truck, it wouldn't sit like that, it would stick to the roof and survive all them bridges! [Edited on September 23, 2013 at 4:46 PM. Reason : ]
9/23/2013 4:43:19 PM
^ Water does not boil at 100 F.
