So, the inservice recruiter is trying pretty hard to get me to go Reserves and crosstrain into an Intel job. I would spend 3 years in the reserves as an E-5 or E-6 and gain a TS clearance, right now I only have a Secret clearance. I know a couple of you have a TS-SCI, is it worth it?

My husband did this while active duty NAVY and then went reserves after active duty. The Active Top Secret Clearance actually helped him get a great job as a civilian. It's the one thing that goes at the very top of his resume. He highly recommends it.[Edited on July 18, 2011 at 2:31 PM. Reason : .]

you oughta go Manning when you do get it

What are you now?

Now I'm a E-4 with a line number for E-5 (ie soon to be promoted)I'm an active duty Air Force munitions troop. It's fun, but is virtually worthless on the outside. I have 130 days left before I separate and start back at NCSU

I'd do it if you can go to NCSU while in reserve (which is what you're thinking about doing I assume). It would get you in the clearance loop, which otherwise is difficult to enter.[Edited on July 18, 2011 at 5:27 PM. Reason : Of which I wish I had for the ol' resume.]

yeah, you could do National Guard or Reserves at Seymour-Johnson, or maybe Pope, while you're at NCSU.I have a TS with SCI. I have only looked for jobs a little bit, but mostly it seems useful if your experience is in intel or IT/other computer stuff. There are other jobs that need it, but those seem to be the ones that are all over the place, and particularly in the IT world, a lot of your competition won't have that clearance.

you don't have to look for jobs with one...they will find you

Horray for OPSEC!

my other military option is to do the whole ROTC thing and maybe get a TS job.

I have one as an Electronics Engineer but haven't had to use it because I haven't been working on the FCCs yet.

It's worth a lot. It means you will instantly get hired by one of those government contractors, which means a base salary of $100kIt costs tens of thousands and time to get one, so companies like it if you already have one.

You're in the air force? Already epic fail. Not even the largest air force in the united states. It's never too late run away.[Edited on July 19, 2011 at 11:04 AM. Reason : N]

TS/SCIs are a dime a dozen these days. They might get you hired but they don't demand the premium that a FS Poly or a CI Poly will get you.

^^ What?
7/19/2011 11:30:39 AM
Ummm, the us navy is the largest air force in our country. And, I really doubt throwing barbs about getting a clearance on Teh Intarnets is really a good idea. I mean, seriously? You are askin TWW about clearances? I feel very safe with you handling information which could pose grave damage to our country.
