I've seen this movie. It was very good. Stars Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Donald Sutherland.

The monkey was the real star of Outbreak.
7/14/2011 8:42:22 PM
The monkey was top notch.

NO ONE IS IMMUNE...TO FEAR.
7/14/2011 10:29:09 PM
I'll probably see this.
7/15/2011 1:02:50 PM
Looks way too similar to Outbreak.
7/15/2011 2:01:44 PM
It's not like Outbreak was the first disease disaster movie, and there aren't many well-made movies in the genre coming out anyway so I don't really see that as a fault. The cast in this one is top notch (much better than Outbreak), and the director has made some really good films so this has the chance to be very good.
7/15/2011 2:05:50 PM
if you're not going to nuke a city, don't waste my fucking time
7/15/2011 2:21:06 PM
Who is Jude Law? Why is he in every movie I have seen in the last four years?...Even the movies he's not acting in, if you look at the credits, he made cupcakes or something.
7/15/2011 2:29:13 PM
"The cast in this one is top notch (much better than Outbreak), "Are you serious? Dustin Hoffman, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, Donald Sutherland comapred to Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Gwenyth? At best, they are equal (they arent), but I suspect there are lot more oscars in the first group than the last.[Edited on July 15, 2011 at 2:55 PM. Reason : ,]

I picked the leads against what I perceived as the leads. How else am I going to do it?
7/15/2011 4:05:52 PM
I'm fine with comparing leads, but you're off on who you're choosing as leads. In Outbreak the leads are Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo and Cuba Gooding Jr (Morgan Freeman is billed slightly higher but Gooding has WAY more screen time). It's debatable in Contagion since all we've seen is a trailer, but I'll go Damon, Winslet and Fishbourne as the leads (Paltrow dies fairly early judging from the trailer).

lol @ this argument

Haha. Thread successfully derailed.

I was bored enough to count up academy awards and team outbreak won 5-4

Thanks! Now I'll be able to sleep tonight.

So this is a movie based on the good parts of The Hot Zone?
7/17/2011 5:41:21 PM
No, it's based on all the parts of Outbreak.

i always laugh when the commercial comes on and matt damon goes "what HAPPENED "
9/6/2011 1:52:19 PM
^For some reason that scene makes me think Damon is doing his best Mark Wahlberg impression.
9/6/2011 2:09:29 PM
Just get Dustin Hoffman to develop the vaccine. Duh!
9/6/2011 10:37:08 PM
yeah his "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!" isn't the best work that he's done.also holy shit, cuba gooding jr. has made 10 direct to dvd movies since 2008, including 7 in a row. this guy is officially off of the b-list.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuba_Gooding_Jr#Filmography

It's getting pretty good reviews. I'll watch it in IMAX this weekend.
9/7/2011 1:34:53 AM
headed out now to see it, if nobody reviews before i get back i'll make sure to take some mental notes for later

pretty good movie, not greatCSI-like music got repetitive after a bit but that soderbergh's MO to use the same music or a derivative throughoutits not something i feel like i really need to watch again or pay full price at the movies for (go to a matinee)
9/9/2011 7:44:36 PM
^ I agree with that as well. It was interesting seeing an outbreak movie from a different perspective.
9/9/2011 9:57:25 PM
AVOID THIS MOVIE! went and saw it after reading rt, imdb etc. reviews . i was really disappointed. as mentioned before about 40% of the movie is shot like a csi episode with just music playing while people collect evidence leading to the murderer(in this case the contagion). the ending leaves a lot to be desired and the acting was not that great. save your $$$, redbox or blueridge it

movie was dissapointing and very predictable. RT and IMDB fail.plus Jude Law's charater didn't make any sence to me and it was a complete distratction.

Not good
9/11/2011 10:18:33 AM
I didnt think it was THAT bad, but there were some things I didnt understand...For exampleSPOILERSWhy did Kate Winslets character not bother to wear a mask or protective gear, when it was obvious by the actions of her character that she knew she was going into a highly dangerous situation? Made no sense when her character was supposed to be highly intelligent. When Matt Damon's car is trying to get out of town, why is his car the first in a long line, and the first to be told to turn around (he acts surprised)? Why does Matt Damon not IMMEDIATELY think of his child and mention his child is possibly infected with the same thing his mother just died from? Why did they intoduce a character like Jude Law, who really did nothing to change or move the plot along? Had a conspiracy been proven, I would have understood it. But he was exposed as a profiteer.
9/11/2011 12:59:38 PM
^The disease is the only thing that moves the plot along. Everything else, including every character, is there to make the portrayal as realistic as possible. The point of the film is not to tell a compelling story or develop ANY characters. Its about giving a serious, 100% plausible "what if" scenario. There's no hollywood glam, no thrilling action sequences, no dramatic climax and no exceptional heroics from any of the characters. Jude Law's character represents a real factor in this kind of story and he had a significant impact on how the crisis unfolded. I never saw Kate Winslet without protective gear when it was obiously necessary. Matt Damon's character was probably in shock from the news he was just given. I'm surprised he was even able to drive a car.
9/12/2011 10:51:58 AM
That's some BS IMO. The point of having many different stories existing at once in a movie is to have something come together in the end, but in this case none of that really happend: many of the stories didn't contribute to anything and they could have been cut out.like (SPOILER)-The WHO thing in China-Jude LawWhen these plot lines fizzle out it becomes dissapointing, and in no way can i justify dissapointment in cinema as a good thing. Also, it was annoying that they built up a scenario that would be horrific with paltrow and her son dyinga gruesome death, but nothing else comes of it and it was also a let down.
9/12/2011 12:20:23 PM
It's a decent movie. One of those you'll see once, and probably enjoy to a degree, but never really go out of your way to see again.
9/12/2011 5:15:30 PM
saw it, enjoyed it, probably won't see again.
9/12/2011 10:12:53 PM
how did Soderbergh get such a good cast for this movie? what a waste of time. I want my $5 back
10/1/2011 12:10:19 AM
As a fan of realism, I enjoyed the movie, but it played out more like a case study or a documentary than a thriller.
10/1/2011 12:53:54 AM
Bump for the real thing.
