Does anyone else get nauseated when you take one?
7/12/2011 9:10:49 AM
i do! but only for about 10-15 minutes after i take it. i found if i eat something and take the vitamin while eating it helps.
7/12/2011 9:11:53 AM
i used to as well, but then i started taking the gummy ones. no more stomach ache
7/12/2011 9:12:21 AM
im trying to start taking them again and it's at first i thought i accidentally thought was taking the ones with iron (i have really high iron) but thats not the case.i took one yesterday morning and was sick almost all day
7/12/2011 9:14:19 AM
I hate them but heard they good for you![Edited on July 12, 2011 at 9:14 AM. Reason : ..]
7/12/2011 9:14:22 AM
I'm thinking about taking some.I suck when it comes to a regimen tho...well except them 90% no baby pills.
7/12/2011 9:16:03 AM
are you supposed to eat food before taking? Are there vitamins you can take for energy, I'm constantly tired and fatigued during the day. I feel like I could fall asleep right now even though I get about 7 hours of sleep a night
7/12/2011 9:18:04 AM
I burp a lot after I take mine. No idea why that is.
7/12/2011 9:19:08 AM
^^YES I take "Alive Women's Energy" and it is awesome. Seriously awesome. You are supposed to take it with food though, or it does make me feel a little sick. You don't have to eat much, just not an empty stomach.[Edited on July 12, 2011 at 9:19 AM. Reason : ]
7/12/2011 9:19:16 AM
yeah i take my vitamin with a banana and some water and i'm fine for the most part.
7/12/2011 9:19:53 AM
"banana"
7/12/2011 9:20:35 AM
exactly
7/12/2011 9:20:58 AM
i take a multivitamin every day, but i break it into two pieces and take one with breakfast and one with lunch...most vitamins are just pissed out, anyway (especially if your diet is halfway decent), but breaking it into multiple doses maximizes absorption
7/12/2011 9:26:56 AM
^thast is a GREAT ideai used to be a nazi about taking them every daya multiplus extrafolic acidcalciumD (im really REALLY D deficient)and every now and then i would throw in things that don't really have too much proven benefit like ginko, or cinnamon extract, ginseng, etc....im tryin to get back to that.
7/12/2011 9:30:15 AM
I've always heard to take a multivitamin with fat soluble food, so I typically take mine right after a meal usually lunch.
7/12/2011 9:32:10 AM
^that's correctyou should take multivitamins with food, specifically food containing a little bit of fat in order to help absorb the fat-soluble vitamins A D E and K
7/12/2011 9:46:49 AM
7/12/2011 9:50:55 AM
^and D[Edited on July 12, 2011 at 9:53 AM. Reason : why does everyone miss vitamin D? ]
7/12/2011 9:53:26 AM
are the gummy vitamins any better/worse in terms of solubility etc?
7/12/2011 9:57:20 AM
nahhhhh(for the most part)ADEK are fat soluble.meaning they dissolve in fat and not water solvents.therefore if the vitamins do not dissolve they can't pass through your intestine lining [Edited on July 12, 2011 at 10:03 AM. Reason : sorry if that was overly simplified and i told you stuff you already knew ]
7/12/2011 10:00:42 AM
I treat girls like vitamins and take a ho a day
7/12/2011 10:01:19 AM
Glad to see the wimmens taking folic acid
7/12/2011 10:02:53 AM
I thought unless you eat at Burger King for every meal, the only benefit to multi vitamins is expensive urine.
7/12/2011 10:03:38 AM
7/12/2011 10:04:33 AM
^^thats debatable.from my understanding the FDA requirements for vitamins are a minimum (maybe i'm wrong about this?)but also though, i really don't eat much on a daily basis so it really wouldn't hurt me >.<^i just wanna stay pale that and i never sunburn or anythingand about the melanoma you ok now?[Edited on July 12, 2011 at 10:06 AM. ^3 one benefit is preventing neural tube defects[Edited on July 12, 2011 at 10:08 AM. Reason : .]
7/12/2011 10:05:43 AM
I like to take them on an empty stomach and slam a tall coffee to get the super sweats
7/12/2011 10:05:51 AM
everytime I start taking multivitamins I catch a cold shortly thereafter. Weird
7/12/2011 10:06:03 AM
don't take vitamins high in A, D, E, and K.I prefer gummy vitamins. they don't upset my stomach if I take them without eating.
7/12/2011 10:06:40 AM
every time I take a vitamin with iron in it I get sick and I am anemic
7/12/2011 10:06:48 AM
^^are you telling me not to take vitamins with those? any reason? aren't vitamins C and B the easiest to get?i actually wanna specialize in vitamins and herbal supplements so i better start looking more into this.[Edited on July 12, 2011 at 10:11 AM. Reason : dgfdgf]
7/12/2011 10:08:40 AM
Yes. I take the chewable ones. The kids chewables taste better than the ones for adults, fyi.
7/12/2011 10:10:37 AM
7/12/2011 10:11:44 AM
fair enough, but i dont think there is enough evidence of the long term use of vitamins.i figure hell- it doesn't really hurt to take em.
7/12/2011 10:13:38 AM
I get nauseated trying to swallow the damn horse pill. Just the smell of the pill can get me going. And from what I've read, a vitamin should only SUPPLEMENT a good diet, not replace. So try to get as many vitamins from the real food!
7/12/2011 10:13:52 AM
7/12/2011 10:16:07 AM
a couple of recently concluded long term studies have shown no benefits from taking multivitamins.
7/12/2011 10:17:38 AM
7/12/2011 10:18:20 AM
7/12/2011 10:18:27 AM
^^ yeah we eat really healthy most of the time but then have binges of candy so we take vitamins on candy days... i don't think starburst & laffy taffy have as many vitamins as the actual fruit does.
7/12/2011 10:19:21 AM
^WHAT?????????
7/12/2011 10:20:52 AM
On the pregnancy note, you need to start taking prenatal vitamins at least 3 months before conception (mainly for... The folic acid )
7/12/2011 10:21:18 AM
they do billlaffy taffy is choc full of A
7/12/2011 10:21:33 AM

7/12/2011 10:22:02 AM
Haha but avocados make my mouth itchBut seriously, I'm not sure how much guac has in it.. The recommended dose is 400 micrograms for a woman with no previous NTD history and 4000 micrograms if there is a history.
7/12/2011 10:24:48 AM
They hurt my tummy so bad that I wasn't taking them. And I know taking them with food will help, but I always forget and then I feel like I have to force myself to eat something so I can take a vitamin. So now I take the One A Day VitaCrave gummies and Viactiv as well.
7/12/2011 10:27:48 AM
Well you consider one avocado has 27mcg of folate so it's pretty low, but pair it with something like lentils and BAM! you've hit over 100%. Even things like asparagus, spinach, and beans have well over half of your daily recommended intake.I think pharmaceutical companies like to make it seem like it's difficult to get a lot of folate naturally in your diet, which simply isn't the case. If it were, how would women in poor countries have healthy babies?
7/12/2011 10:33:10 AM
Well I think the real challenge is asking someone to get that 100% every day for at least 3 months and then through at least the 8th week of pregnancy... That, and getting 4,000mcg in one day would be a challenge But I do agree people should try to get it naturally as well. The good thing about folic acid is the more the better![Edited on July 12, 2011 at 10:35 AM. Reason : .]

My morning pill stack is:- Multivitamin- Fish Oil- Glucosamine Condroitin w/MSM- ClaritinI get nasty burning burps within 10 minutes if I don't have something to drink/eat with it. I'm pretty sure I would get nauseous if I took it on an empty stomach and didn't follow it with something. Most mornings I just grab a Slim Fast can and that seems to work fine.
