are you supposed to eat food before taking?

Are there vitamins you can take for energy, I'm constantly tired and fatigued during the day. I feel like I could fall asleep right now even though I get about 7 hours of sleep a night

^^YES I take "Alive Women's Energy" and it is awesome. Seriously awesome. You are supposed to take it with food though, or it does make me feel a little sick. You don't have to eat much, just not an empty stomach.

i take a multivitamin every day, but i break it into two pieces and take one with breakfast and one with lunch...most vitamins are just pissed out, anyway (especially if your diet is halfway decent), but breaking it into multiple doses maximizes absorption

^thast is a GREAT idea

i used to be a nazi about taking them every day

a multi
plus extra

folic acid
calcium
D (im really REALLY D deficient)

and every now and then i would throw in things that don't really have too much proven benefit like ginko, or cinnamon extract, ginseng, etc....

im tryin to get back to that.

I've always heard to take a multivitamin with fat soluble food, so I typically take mine right after a meal usually lunch.

^that's correct

you should take multivitamins with food, specifically food containing a little bit of fat in order to help absorb the fat-soluble vitamins A D E and K

1) vitamins should always be taken WITH a meal which includes FAT.

2) B vitamins. Have your blood checked for the levels of the following: B vitamins, iron, hemoglobin, thyroid hormones. A low level of one or more of those is probably the cause.

nahhhhh
(for the most part)

ADEK are fat soluble.
meaning they dissolve in fat and not water solvents.

therefore if the vitamins do not dissolve they can't pass through your intestine lining

from my understanding the FDA requirements for vitamins are a minimum (maybe i'm wrong about this?)

but also though, i really don't eat much on a daily basis so it really wouldn't hurt me >.<

Right, but if you eat for example, a spinach salad you're blasting those requirements out of the water. I had a doctor once tell me the only time you should waste money on vitamins is when you're pregnant and even then it's up for debate if you eat a healthy diet.

I get nauseated trying to swallow the damn horse pill. Just the smell of the pill can get me going.

And from what I've read, a vitamin should only SUPPLEMENT a good diet, not replace. So try to get as many vitamins from the real food!

talk to marko 'bout some kidney stones. excess vitamins just pass through your body...they gotta build up some sort of residue after prolonged use.

Yep, and I read one awhile back that basically said the benefits don't come from the vitamins themselves, but rather that well educated people that eat healthy diets are more likely to regularly take vitamins. Essentially you're getting what you need from your food and pissing out the vitamins lol.

But seriously, I'm not sure how much guac has in it.. The recommended dose is 400 micrograms for a woman with no previous NTD history and 4000 micrograms if there is a history.

They hurt my tummy so bad that I wasn't taking them. And I know taking them with food will help, but I always forget and then I feel like I have to force myself to eat something so I can take a vitamin.

So now I take the One A Day VitaCrave gummies and Viactiv as well.

Well you consider one avocado has 27mcg of folate so it's pretty low, but pair it with something like lentils and BAM! you've hit over 100%. Even things like asparagus, spinach, and beans have well over half of your daily recommended intake.

I think pharmaceutical companies like to make it seem like it's difficult to get a lot of folate naturally in your diet, which simply isn't the case. If it were, how would women in poor countries have healthy babies?

Well I think the real challenge is asking someone to get that 100% every day for at least 3 months and then through at least the 8th week of pregnancy... That, and getting 4,000mcg in one day would be a challenge

But I do agree people should try to get it naturally as well. The good thing about folic acid is the more the better!

My morning pill stack is:
- Multivitamin
- Fish Oil
- Glucosamine Condroitin w/MSM
- Claritin

I get nasty burning burps within 10 minutes if I don't have something to drink/eat with it. I'm pretty sure I would get nauseous if I took it on an empty stomach and didn't follow it with something. Most mornings I just grab a Slim Fast can and that seems to work fine.
