READING IT MADE ME CHUCKLE A BIT AND I FELT LIKE BEING MARGINALLY POSITIVE
7/1/2011 7:00:08 AM
Sounds like a green card marriage to me.Either that or her mom is that 190% crazy and she didn't want to plan a wedding because of it. At least I'm not the only one secret married now.
7/1/2011 7:27:39 AM
I got married before our wedding because I needed dat 190% medical insurance. He raped my insurance for four years though so he had it coming
7/1/2011 7:54:08 AM
No it was not a green card thing. we had been engaged for a year and living together for about 2 years. The traditional wedding was just not going to happen due to our finances. I mean, her parents have no means to help us period, and I am the child of a single parent that is pretty much a bum. So, we agonized about it for a while, tried saving money for it, and finally just came to the conclusion that our savings would be better spent for something like a car or a vacation. In all honesty, this had been the plan for a while. She already has her citizenship because her father was a citizen, even though she was born and grew up in Jamaica. The whole ball and chain metaphor does not fit this relationship, or else I would not be in it. We have our moments where we annoy each other, but she is very understanding of my working schedule (which is 9 to 8 M-F and 10-6 Sat). And we have a very similar background which makes it much more pleasant to be around her because she understands what I have had to put up with my whole life.
7/1/2011 11:11:55 AM
Glad to hear man. I hope it works out for the best
7/1/2011 11:26:08 AM
me too, man, thanks.

Yes, correct, unless parents are involved and financially solvent enough to help out. In that case, it is like a big fun bash. Maybe we will do it one day if we have kids that want to get married, who knows. But for us it didn't seem like the right decision. And the only real way of doing the elopement correctly is to keep it very simple with no people in attendance. Because, if you start inviting "some" friends and family then it slowly starts to turn into a wedding.[Edited on July 1, 2011 at 3:39 PM. Reason : df]
