first thing that came to mind is Crash
6/26/2011 4:17:08 PM
anything James Cameron has ever done
6/26/2011 4:32:12 PM
American Beauty and Good Will Hunting were both grossly overrated.

I thought Slumdog Millionaire was good, but to me it was way overhyped.

Titanic wins this thread every time.
6/26/2011 6:22:47 PM
Titanic was poo, i don't know that anyone can argue that

i hated Crashmajor waste of time...wasn't at all interesting to me
6/26/2011 7:10:08 PM
^^that makes sensebut wasn't sure...thread title says "nominated/winning"though in retrospect, it would be odd for someone to have an opinion on an overrated Oscar winner from the 1920s unless they are a huge film buff]
6/26/2011 8:59:47 PM
awards shows are the antithesis of art
6/27/2011 1:57:39 AM
gladiator
6/27/2011 8:32:15 AM
Chariots of Fire winning over Raiders of the Lost Ark was the biggest oscar ripoff of all time.^^ Nah not really.

friends of mine still try to defend Crash as a good movie. I hated it so much. i can still rant about how bad it is, but i won't.
6/27/2011 1:56:44 PM
^that movie was a contrived piece of junk
6/27/2011 2:04:14 PM
6/27/2011 2:05:15 PM
The King's Speech
6/27/2011 2:14:37 PM
Of last year's noms, the only one that I thought was "overrated" was Winter's Bone but I'm sure it was only nominated to get the total to 10.
6/27/2011 2:16:54 PM
thank god gladiator was mentioned already, I still have some faith in humanity, I agree with lords of the rings too and prob pretty much most of that entire list the guy posted (except for prob no country, american beauty, godfathers and maybe the departed), it's pretty much the biggest movie of the yr that wins, not the bestalso I'll echo anything james cameron has ever done [Edited on June 27, 2011 at 3:26 PM. Any fucking song that eminem ever did for some stupid fucking movie/
6/28/2011 12:19:58 AM
^^^well I'll revise that to say biggest movie with a certain level of seriousness, and I don't just mean special effects or budget, more like mass market appeal(this isn't really even my own argument, I have more basic issues with the award system, but it's a def an idea people have brought up with stuff like titanic and lord of the rings winning at some point)[Edited on June 28, 2011 at 6:13 PM. Citizen Kane
6/29/2011 6:13:59 PM
^^ I mean I agree quite a bit that the whole awards system is hokey in a lot of ways but at the same time, I think LOTR:ROTK was the best of the films nominated for best picture that year
