Thoughts from one of the few evil TWW conservatives? If I moved to, I don't know, France, I would make every attempt to learn the language, if not for anything else, to make things easier on me. But that would be on me. If I were with my own family, I sure as hell wouldn't speak French to them when I could speak my native tongue.

People getting angry over this sort of thing is rather sad.

You might make an attempt, but I'd be willing to bet that after several years of casually trying to learn it, you'd still be far from fluent in it, and your accent would be so terrible that most of the french probably wouldn't understand a word you said. (and I bet you really wouldn't have time to devote yourself to truly studying the language)
