microsoft should have just let this series die instead of milking it and running it into the ground
6/8/2011 9:51:40 AM
Yeah because that's what companies do.Halo was fun because it was a little different. All the sequels blow. At least the graphics are better... this will be like the 4th retexture of call of dutyI'm astraladvent and I approved this message.[Edited on June 8, 2011 at 10:03 AM. Reason : ]

Fuck Halo 4, the only thing that matters from that post is that Halo (the original) will be on Xbox Live. This should of happened years ago, and will likely generate more money than any of the other Halo's did.

Ok I know this is for Halo 4 (which I plan on buying b/c I am a Halo nerd) that being said does anyone on here still play reach. I need a hand with a co-op weekly challenge.

I realize this thread is about Halo 4.... which this post is not. Hear me out, maybe I can offer some insight.I am in outside sales, which is currently salary+commission, but will move into straight commission starting at the beginning of July 2010. I have been in this position since July 2009. I have competition from several direct manufacturing sales reps, large distributors, and local distributors. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of each:Direct Advantages: Immediate knowledge of new technology, no middle man mark up, one shipping bill (paid by manufacturer or buyer of goods), access to larger range of non-commodity items, control inventory, have access to many distributors that can effectively sell their goods which increases market share, and set prices of commodity they manufacture.Direct disadvantages: Typically have 1-3 sales reps per region (i.e. southeast, mid-atlantic, northeast, etc.) limiting the number of accounts they can successfully manage/cold-call, lack physical customer service or physical technical service available to or affordable for smaller users or altogether, are sometimes not trustworthy because they will go in behind their distributors that sell their commodity to one account in large quantities (i.e. they missed a big account, and have found out about it through a distributor selling their particular product) which leads to the distributor not selling their product anymore, have too many distributors selling the product ultimately driving the set price down through deviations, possibly rely on distributors to actually sell the product, and competition from other direct sources.Large distributor advantages: have access to other commodities that go hand in hand with other manufacturers (poor example- grocery stores sell milk as well as cereal), get direct pricing, many locations regionally or nationally easing the shipping burden of buyers with multiple locations, personal service either customer or technical, many sales reps that are able to cover a broader territory, access to multiple manufacturers of the same commodity allowing to keep prices in check, service programs that smaller companies can't offer and direct providers can't match in price or value, and experts of many many commodities as opposed to one or a few.Large distributor disadvantages: smaller local distributors creating price wars (think Michael Scott Paper Co vs Dunder-Mifflin), direct mfg's going in behind and stealing business, limited access to all of the mfg's (you won't find Harris Teeter name brands in Food Lion and visa versa), can't truly set prices because it's based on both supply and demand, territory management, and tough growth prospects in slower economies (this is true for direct as well really)Local distributor advantages: Typically a good ol' boy setting where the seller and the buyer know each other for years (this does happen at all levels, but mostly at the local level), local folks are right down the street and can be used in emergencies, if the local guy buys at high enough volumes then there is no shipping charge to the end user, and access to both direct mfg's and large distributors.Local distributor disadvantages: easily beaten in price, array of commodities, array of technology, lack of trained staff, low cash flow, etc etc etc. This is what I have noticed in my six months, I am sure there are plenty more that need mentioning. The way I am setting myself apart as a sales person is this: I go after the big accounts right now while I am new. The big accounts, if I land them, will take care of me while I am new and building a customer base. The money made off of those allows me to focus free time on smaller accounts that get me higher margins. I build up big accounts, I would like to have 5-10 of these, then get 20-30 medium accounts. If I lose 1 or 2 big accounts, the 20-30 medium accounts keep me afloat while I go after new big accounts. I don't really waste time on small accounts simply because they basically pay for breakfast or something really small.I will say this, if you can't get a big account in the first 6-8 months (assuming you have cash flow that you can ride this long) you could be in a world of trouble. If you can get one, it will really make going after the others a lot more enjoyable and less stressful. It's simply just very exhausting wasting any time on anything other than big accounts in the very beginning. You work just as hard on the medium sized accounts and see 1/3 to 1/36 of the money in my situation. If you have any other questions, you can PM me. I hope this helps in the slightest!
8/29/2011 2:08:33 PM
I see what you did there.
8/29/2011 4:34:43 PM
In on page 1. I'm hoping they can breathe some new life into this series. Reach got old quick
8/29/2011 9:04:57 PM
^ Have you seen the news regarding Halo: CE Anniversary? Specifically the new multiplayer maps and the Title Update for Reach that is bringing back the Halo 1 pistol? Halo 4 isn't out for another year, so it's nice to see Microsoft trying to "breathe new life" into Halo: Reach.By the way, if anyone here on TWW has questions about Halo 4, Halo: CEA, or even Bungie's next game just ask them here and I'll answer them as best I can. I know pretty much all of the public info on that stuff and was hanging out with the developers last weekend at PAX.

they still make halo and CoD?I'm Krallum and I approved this message.
8/5/2012 11:09:55 PM
yes. they still make forum posts without signatures, too.
8/5/2012 11:16:01 PM
Haven't enjoyed halo since Halo2 really. 3 was ok, but didn't compare. Here's to hoping this one is awesome. I prefer Halo over CoD, but when hardly anyone is playing one...and millions of people are playing the other it's hard not to go with the flow.

I've started playing a bit of Reach, just to get myself ready for this because the more I see the more interested I become. For a freshman development studio like 343 it really looks like they're stepping up
9/27/2012 7:59:14 AM
Had a lot of fun playing this at PAX. 343 Industries had a charter bus pick up a bunch of Halo community people from the convention center and take us to one of the Microsoft game studios. They fed us pizza, gave us beer, and let us play Halo 4 multiplayer with the developers for about three hours. Game is a blast.
9/27/2012 12:36:17 PM
Went for broke and put in a preoder. For anyone interested Amazon will give you a $10 promo credit if you preorder, and there's a MP armor paint scheme exclusive. Not to mention it's a buck cheaper and no tax. Free shipping too if you're Prime. You'll find me on 11/6ImYourHucklBry
9/27/2012 12:43:35 PM
I'm considering this game on par with Halo: ODST, 343 will shit their pants. Reach was pretty bad and this seems to be Reach 2.0 with dubstep trailers and orange particle effects. Makes sense though, looks like Halo and Call of Duty will get flushed down the toilet together as the franchises are milked dry.

^ It is much, much faster than Reach. The gunplay is SOLID. Normal movement speed and jump height are close to Halo 3, except jumping isn't as floaty - you fall faster like in Reach. Everyone always has sprint, so you can move through the maps very quickly.Melee and grenades are toned down (grenades are still pretty powerful, but there seems to be less grenade spam). Halo 4 is definitely a gun game, I saw very few of the sprint/melee kills that plagued Halo 3 and Reach. There is no bloom and the BR is back to reclaim the throne.Armor abilities still exist, but it seems 343 really learned from Reach and took steps to fix the problematic ones. The loadout system and player investment borrows a few good ideas from Call of Duty, but the actual gameplay feels just like classic Halo. I think 343 has also put in a lot of effort to make objective gametypes popular again, which is great. I played in a 5v5 CTF match against the best 343 developers and that shit was intense.I am a big Halo fan, but I grew tired of Reach's mechanics. Halo 4 is a very fresh, fast-paced experience that still brings a lot of change to the table but still retains the Halo feel at its core.[Edited on September 28, 2012 at 7:02 PM. Reason : .]

9/29/2012 7:58:12 PM
there is bloom. the dmr is in it. there is recoil with the br.
10/2/2012 12:02:46 AM
The recoil on the BR is so easy to counter I forget it's there. The bloom on the DMR only comes into play at very long distances; for most encounters it might as well be zero bloom. I spent at least five minutes during PAX just shooting the BR and Carbine at a wall to test the bloom and it's trivial compared to the annoying bloom in Reach.More changes:- You don't get knocked out of scope when shot, instead you "flinch".- Shooting someone that is sprinting slows that player down to normal run speed. This helps prevent the sprint/melee bullshit that Reach had.I could go on about the changes to each Armor Ability, the nuances of each armor mod (perk), and the differences between the guns (new and old), if you like.
