What are some of the roads you consider "dream drives"? They can be roads you have driven or ones you want to drive before you die. Here's mine.

Autobahn
Stelvio Pass
Transfagarasan (DN7C)
U.S. Route 66
Pretty much any of the rural roads on the Isle of Man
Florida State Road A1A
Pacific Coast Highway
Deals Gap portion of US Route 129 aka Tail of the Dragon
Blue Ridge Parkway
Nürburgring

It was our honeymoon to Germany, 2005, I was driving a new E46 318i rental. It was early April.

Went down to see Ludwig's castles from Munich. Stopped at a few lakes along the way. Interestingly, some of the secondary two lane roads had no speed limits. I met an A4, and we would blast through the country side for a few kms before we hit a small Bavarian town. Slow down, beautiful town, pass the maypole. On the same sign post with the exiting town limits was the no speed limit sign, and away we went. Did several towns like that.

We found a road leaving Schloss Hohenschwangau that dipped into Austria. The river that ran the length of a stretch of road still had ice on it. Nice curvy road, absolutely beautiful, and the only cars we saw were at the stop getting into Austria. Stopped at Linderhof when we got back into Germany, then hit the Autobahn back into Munich wide ass open. The sun was setting, she was asleep after a long day of castle hopping, and I was with traffic at the 225kph limiter (red line in 5th).

The next day we were cruising the Black Forest on the way to Baden Baden. Very nice road with more fantastic scenery. Some snow still around which made the hilly roads more interesting.

The next day we snaked up the Rhine to St Goar. Some stretches of this two lane had no speed limit between towns. Hill on the left, river on the right.

The rest of the good driving was a morning at the Ring before leaving. Scared the piss out of me, especially since the E46 had all weathers and had not had any track time at this point (I drove Sports Car GT for months to get the layout, but I still didnt know anything).

If you are going to do the Ring, be there before it opens. The schools and club groups did not show up until mid morning, so my first 4 laps were pretty much open. It was 60 Euros for 5 laps, but I hear it is much higher now.

Saw some cool stuff. Koblenz is very awesome if you appreciate military strategy. But those are the bits about driving. I would do it again in a heartbeat save spend more than a week, go deeper into the Black Forest, and skip Bonn and Frankfurt.

If you have a chance to drive Germany, especially Bavaria and/or the Black Forest, please God do it.

Cherohala Skyway
Wayah Rd (OMGWTFBBQ) http://www.sundaymorningrides.com/road/4178353/
If you are going to do the Blue Ridge, start in Front Royal and do the stretch of Skyline Drive, too.
I-85 under Atlanta at 1AM. Spooky, especially with no one on the road. Especially driving a 38' air ride motorhome towing a wagon. Nevermind.
281 from San Antonio to McAllen. You will see the smallest Walmart and absolutely nothing but ranch fences and the occasional gate. Really neat.

There are more I would like to drive, and drive again, but I cannot remember the road numbers. With the kid, my exploring days are over for a while.

Really? That sucks. I was looking forward to driving it. Oh well, have to replace it with something else.

yeah and the speed limit doesn't get over 35 iirc. it was cool from a sightseeing and "yeah, i've done that" aspect, but not from a driving aspect.

this is us at deal's gap on our honeymoon:

I will admit, I was pushing the car pretty hard on the dragon... But the suspension is soft.

Ever seen a slammed nine fo fo?

That was a fun trip...

Chief Joseph Scenic Highway (Wyoming near Yellowstone), switchbacks to die for:

Beartooth Pass Scenic Highway (Wyoming near Yellowstone). Not my picture, but I took my motorcycle (sport bike) through with about the same height of snow in May, it was hilarious:

And, closer to home, US 421 ("The Snake", although ugh I hate that name) between Bristol, TN and Mountain City, TN. It's like the Dragon but less overcrowded (although getting worse as the years pass and the Dragon gets more and more overcrowded heh).
