You'd be surprised...I had an encounter recently in which one was convinced that a portion of a leaf from a tree that was on my passenger seat was weed.[Edited on June 2, 2011 at 1:23 PM. Reason : .]

it's sad because as a police officer you go through drug identification courses...and damn, marijuana will probably be one of the most common drugs you encounter in traffic stops. it's just mind boggling to me.

I got pulled by a Morehead City cop for "speeding" a few years back. He couldn't tell me how fast I was going but said that it was on his radar gun back in the car. He asked me step out of the car because he smelled marijuana (nevermind that I'd bought the car new less than 2 weeks earlier and had never had pot or even smoked a cigarette in it). He does his terry search and informs me that I have a pipe in my pocket. I inform him that it's a keychain and show it to him. He has me sit on the curb while he searches my car and finds nothing. Another cop shows up and basically laughs at the guy who pulled me over. In an effort to save face he has me sit in the passenger seat of his squad car and gets in my face shouting the he used to be a narcotics officer and knows what marijuana smells like. I ask him if he's no longer a narc because he can't tell the difference between pot and new car smell. He gets angrier. I ask him where his radar gun is because I'd like to know his justification for pulling me. He refuses to produce one. I leave.

Where's Demathis1 to tell us it's too much to ask for a drug test that doesn't return positives for common items like sage?
