Has anyone used any of the various roommate search websites google returns? I've got a post on CL, but didn't know if any of the other sites got used often. I'm trying to find a roommate to move downtown later this summer or in the fall.

Tried roommates.com and got a date and free Disney tix out of it. Craigslist was more successful (and cheaper) for me though.

i don't see roommate information there.i can find apartments, i've looked at a few, but if i can find a roommate with similar interests i wouldn't mind that instead of living alone.

CL is good if you know what to look for and how to write the ad so that it deters idiots from emailing you. Some of the roommate ads, I read them and move on because the place is nice but it sounds like they are 190% crazy.

I always assumed if I posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a housemate I'd have to tell a constant stream of losers and fuckups that they can't actually live here. I feel fortunate that all of my housemates have been friends or friends of friends that I had some level of trust with before they moved in.

i'm in Raleigh, and I have an ad on Craigslist. So far the only responses have been from young professionals in a similar situation as me, so I think I did okay writing it to weed out the idiots. I thought about looking into what the University has available, but I'm not sure I want to live with a student, even a grad student. I know that for me I kept weird hours in school and I'd rather find someone working a job with similar hours so I'm not getting mad at them for playing music late on a Tuesday night or something. And yeah, I'm meeting anyone before I do anything. I have a pretty flexible timeline so I can wait till I find someone that I think will be a good roommate. I'd like to find someone with similar interests and none of my friends need a place. I don't need to be best friends with them, that would be cool if we got along that well and it turned out like that, but I would like to have a roommate that I could interact with and not just stay in our separate rooms all the time.

^^^^my roommate is far from perfect but shes not going to steal my shit and she pays on time. does she cry all the time and leave dishes in the sink? yeah but she also pays half my mortgage so i can look past a few things, especially since she meets the trust & on time payment criteriamy bf has had some good and bad experiences finding roommates on CL but you & lewoods are absolutely right, the ad has to be written a certain way to weed out the lunaticsliving with a grad student isnt all bad, especially if they're graduating soon. i recently raised the rent on my roommate partly bc i know shes going to have a full time job soon and can afford more and partly because she was getting too good of a deal before so i got her in on the cheap rent then upped it (i also run a month to month lease agreement so i can do that)

For finding my first apartment before moving to Raleigh to start at NCSU, I used roommates.com. I found a 4 BR/4 BA apartment on Gorman and freshman year ended up working out great. It worked out extra well for me because I only had to come to Raleigh once to check it out and meet the roommates/landlord and I moved in the next week with the U-Haul.
