"Set amid the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad—when former soldiers, freed slaves, and other men trying to shape their destiny spent their days laying track and their off hours whooping it up in the titular traveling camp—it delves deeply into the way the war between the states tore open wounds that are still festering, much like Mad Men still has plenty to say about our national identity, gender politics, and the effectiveness of a good bra shot."

The cast includes Anson Mount, Colm Meaney and Common amongst others. Premieres sometime in the fall.

i'm pretty sure that's John Marston walking in that picture, though I don't understand why he hasn't just whistled for his horse

Sounds pretty badass, I'll have to tune in! Though I'll be impressed if its anywhere near as good as Deadwood.

it is nearly impossible for anything on basic cable to compete with deadwood... simply because they were able to use such violence (both classic and sexual), language, and lewdness to show how gritty the west really was (or how we want to imagine it being) - regardless, basic cable can't compete with that

^ yeah but Breaking Bad's doing a damn good job of showing the drug world without being able to go to Wire-esque type levels

I liked this show quite a bit when it was called Deadwood. Also, The Walking Dead was actually pretty weak overall...so AMC hasn't shown me much.

They have more shows than Walking Dead. You may have heard of them before.

Premiere set for November 6th after The Walking Dead. Also this tweet from press tour amused me:
Quote :
"Sigh. Reporter asks Common if he was surprised racism still existed after the Civil War. [He wasn't.] "

After my initial panic...I thought about it and I think that AMC is usually good about airing encores after their premiere block...if not then Showtime and HBO definitely are.

Bump for the premiere on Sunday. I heard the pilot was a mess, but perhaps they've worked out some of the issues in the interim. The thread title could go from sincere to sarcastic very quickly.

it's always hard to judge a show after just the pilot, so i'll give it some time to develop.

10 minutes is definitely not enough time to judge a show.

i'll watch anything with scalping and throats getting cut, it kept me entertained enough for an hour.

Also I have a feeling you people are going to flip your shit when we see The Swede next week.

the old guy that hires Bohannon...don't know if they ever even gave him a name, and at this point it's obvious he's not coming back, but that actor was Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. He's got a top 10 creepy voice.

Pissed that we won't see more of him (Ted Levine), I've always liked that actor.

I enjoyed the show, feels like a good follow-up to Walking Dead. It's a drama, but it feels a little lighter than TWD.

The pilot was better than I thought it would be but it still definitely feels like a pale imitation of Deadwood. Colm Meaney isn't doing his best work here.

I figured that out, and at the exact same time realized that Buffalo Bill = Police Captain from Monk! Holy mind blown.

yeah the Swede is pretty awesome. Also those indians were like something out of a movie from the 30s, one of them actually said "counting coup", in english no less.

The way they're depicting the Indians is, uh, interesting.
