I'm surprised -- I thought another minority government was the best Harper could hope for. Earlier polls seemed to support that idea. Let's hope he does OK with it.

Alot of ridings (districts) split the Liberal-NDP vote and allowed the Tories to win. The Nader effect. Most of the NDP gains were in Quebec, one wonders how pro-Quebec the NDP will become.

Ok? I don't know much about Canadian politics, but I do know that electing people from Alberta is like electing people from Texas here. So basically it's 5 years of tar sands on fire.

I think its safe to say that the Conservatives in Canada could probably pass as moderate Democrats here.

The Harper wing of the CPC are more like the Republicans if their actually was a left wing worth fearing in America.

I just heard on NPR that a lot of the new NDP MPs are youthful, have no political experience, and don't even live in their districts; also there is a danger that if the people of Québec are unhappy with the new Official Opposition, the Parti Québécois (the radical counterpart to the Bloc Québécois) could gain much more traction, leading to the secession of Québec from Canada by the end of the decade.

I don't really think we have any other option other than making Quebec our 51st state.

Quebec is gonna unite with all of New England except New Hampshire and become a truly bilingual uber-nation of frogs, old sailors, and gay people. New Brunswick is allowed to join, too. This sucks. Harper is going to have all the leeway he needs to destroy Canada since the NDP has no clue what they're doing and the Libs are worthless (and yet are still the only party with the experience and skill to be more than a flash in the pan insurgency).People think the Conservatives moderate themselves, but really the only thing keeping them from Bush-like environmental policies is knowing that the left in Canada can actually marshal a base of support worth fearing, unlike the Democrats here who like to make fun of their base.[Edited on June 1, 2011 at 12:11 PM.
