I use a lifecam 5000. HD 720p, 60fps peak. I pair that with a blue microphones snowflake for audio (their icicle is also primo.)It's a good setup, maybe $30 for the cam refurb and another $50 for the snowflake. (Don't get sucked in by the blue eyeball - the popup webcam is almost trash and has whiney drivers.)

the lifecam seems the way to go, being HD and costing the same as a 1.3mp sensor webcam.
