I probably have this issue at least once a day. My desktop is about 3 years old, and it's running Windows XP. I haven't noticed any pattern to when it occurs - sometime it occurs while I'm surfing the internet, sometimes it occurs when I'm running a game and not on the internet. Typically I'll lose my wireless signal, and about 15-30 seconds later the connection to the router is established once again. On occasion, it won't be able to reestablish the connection; in those cases, nothing short of restarting the computer will restore the connection. I was using a Linksys wireless card and router (both G), and I decided to get a new card and router to see if that took care of the problem. I bought a Rosewill pack (Newegg house brand) that came with both products (N instead of G). Any combination of the products (Linksys/Rosewill card, Linksys/Rosewill router) still results in the problem.

So it's not the router or the wireless card. Can anybody suggest the next step in the troubleshooting process? I appreciate your help in advance.

random driver problem most likely. You can upgrade to win7 for like $30 these days via academic or via a family pack. It's almost crazy not to save some lunch money and make it happen.
