Went to the Tufts vs Salisbury D-III championship last night. Pretty great experience. If you are at all interested in Lax and the championship is near you, I recommend checking it out. Salisbury dominated. They were just much bigger and faster than Tufts. Salisbury's female talent was pretty good too.

I wish we had more of a reason to post in this thread. But as long as Title IX is around...Anyways, congrats to UVA. Pretty good weekend for their athletics. NCAA championship and ACC baseball championship.

Felt bad for Ryan Young, would've been a great story.I despise all Maryland teams, except for their lax team. I just love the way they play.

The lacrosse championship weekend is actually a pretty underrated sporting event to attend. You get 5 games over 3 days between the semi's and D2/D3 championship and final game. I've been a few times, good tailgating and atmosphere, usually at least 2-3 of the games are really good and close, and all around pretty fun event. One year I did Preakness/Lax Finals back to back weekends. That was a fun double.

Yeah, I saw my first lacrosse match two summers ago. It is starting to slowly gain my interest. Does State atleast have a club team? If MD, UVA and the Tarholes can field a squad-I dont see why we can not?

It's like hockey, with none of the hitting or acrobatic goaltending.

i started coaching lacrosse this year... i had never played but i have learned a ton about the sport.

^^^ State does (did?) have a club team. stone was on it as well as a bunch of guys that I went to HS with in Charlotte.

anyone take bowling with Patch? he was the coach back then. he may still be the bowling professor, i had him as my prof for bowling class in 02 or 03 i think. he was a cool guy and had some interesting ideas about canadian players. apparently no one in the states recruited them but him.
5/31/2011 7:47:20 PM
^Canadian players are good, but they have a reputation of being "soft", finesse type players.i played club at State along with titans78those were some good times, it was a fun mix of competition and a laid-back atmosphere.
5/31/2011 8:01:13 PM
many canadians are recruited in the states these days for college lax
5/31/2011 8:06:01 PM
patch said that he loved to have them because of all the time they spent playing "box lax" that their stick skills were much more advanced than kids from the stated. he said that the knock was them being "soft" as stated but he never found that from the kids he recruited. cool to see a ncsu coach being the earlier pioneer of recruiting canadian kids.

^that...plus their non stop motors and serious cutting skills - little fuckers slice up those spread out defenses my old high school won the NC state title this year. I started playing lacrosse for a club team in greensboro in 1992 when there were about a dozen teams in the state, almost all of which were private schools. we tried to get it into the school when I was there and had the interest, but the administration said that it was too dangerous (all while football players had ambulances standing by at the games). we had to buy our own equipment, drive into the city for practice and drive ourselves to games, sometimes getting fake doctor notes so we could skip out early enough to drive to charlotte for a 5 o'clock game. it was a blast and I got good enough to get recruited for D-1. pretty amazing to see how far the sport has come since theni'd love to see state get a varsity team but given debbie has said we can't afford to support our current teams, I don't see that happening any time soon

^i read an article last september where she said that we won't have any new sports for a while, but the next sport that we get will be lacrosse. At work now so I can't really search for it, but if i remember when i get home i'll post the link.

Believe it when you see them playing. If I had a nickel for every "State's getting a sanctioned lax team back" rumor I've heard I'd have at least 50ยข. Then I'd buy a newspaper. Or a stick of gum.Oh yeah, canadians always go with the same hand and they always seem to be lefties. If you can shut them down on their strong side they become pretty useless. Not saying that's easy: see Gary Gait, Zach Greer, etc.[Edited on June 5, 2011 at 4:19 PM. Reason : .]
