Set in 1979 Ohio, a group of six young children use a Super 8 camera to make their own zombie movie. One night while filming near a remote stretch of railroad tracks, the children witness a truck collide with an oncoming train leading to a catastrophic derailment. Amidst the fire and destruction, something inhuman emerges. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vtn5dm9uYi8

Seeing a screening of this tonight, interested to see how it compares to Cloverfield. Just hope Coach Taylor wrecks shop on some type of alien creature, haha.

as i hear it, the sheriff knew it was going to happencat delivered a paper to his doorstep the morning ofthe paper had the story and now he has to make it right[Edited on June 7, 2011 at 3:06 PM. Reason : .]
6/7/2011 3:05:52 PM
hahahahahaThis is on my list of must sees for the summer
6/7/2011 3:53:06 PM
sheriff? I thought he was the football coach
6/7/2011 4:25:59 PM
It was a solid movie. Thought it was much better than Cloverfield. Gave it around an 8-8.5. And Coach Taylor did a good job, but a few of the young stars really stole the show acting wise. Elle Fanning is already a better actress than Dakota Fanning, haha.
6/8/2011 12:16:46 PM
I'm really want to see this.
6/8/2011 2:21:52 PM
I just want to know what it's about. I really don't want to watch it though. Someone post the spoiler so I can be done with the movie. \/ My best guess is that there is no creature, they just want you to think there is. Could be wrong.[Edited on June 8, 2011 at 2:48 PM. Reason : -]
6/8/2011 2:25:27 PM
yeah, what is that creature thing?
6/8/2011 2:45:33 PM
Haha I can post a spoiler if you all would like, and yes I'll make sure to mark it and make it obvious a spoiler is coming.
6/8/2011 2:48:54 PM
DO ITI want the dessert without sifting thru the veggies
6/8/2011 2:57:27 PM
Saw it last night. I loved it, thoroughly impressive. It definitely has Spielberg's fingerprints on it, and it could actually almost be a direct prequel to Cloverfield. Great special effects and very entertaining, plus there was actually a story and all of the actors were very good for the most part. The creature design kind of left something to be desired, but you can decide that for yourself. Overall I would give it an 8 or 9
6/8/2011 3:01:11 PM
spoilers PLEASEtaking PMs if that makes you feel better
6/8/2011 3:26:47 PM
^ I too thought maybe they were going for a Cloverfield prequel but Abrams said it was not when directly asked, so take that for what it's worth I guess.******************* SPOILERS AHEAD! **************************************You were warned! The creature is an alien. The Air Force found it years before the movie occurs. They tortured it in the name of science for years and it began to hate humans. The creature is subterranean and communicated via psychic waves when it touches/grabs someone. It looks like the monster from Cloverfield but on a much smaller scale. It fit inside one train car, so about the size of a garbage truck or so. It only wants to reassemble his ship and get off the planet, but the Air Force have the pieces to his ship. It also captures humans and saves them to eat later.************************* END SPOILER ************************[Edited on June 8, 2011 at 3:39 PM. Reason : Changed my spoiler from full plot to creature-focused.]

I didn't know if people wanted the full movie synopsis spoiler or just info about the creature so I figured I'd play it safe.
6/8/2011 3:42:50 PM
I hate JJ Abrams so much.
6/8/2011 3:45:25 PM
Lol this review is funny as shit, but there are SPOILERS everywhere.----------SPOILERS-------http://www.observer.com/movie-review-jj-abrams-super-8So apparently, this top notch critic for the New York Observer released his review that reveals all of the plot secrets as well as the ending, which creates a bunch of angry online comments bashing him. So he gets a fake account and responds with this:
6/8/2011 6:05:25 PM
sounds like a decent B movie to watch when it gets straight to netflix.
6/8/2011 6:21:12 PM
Wait, so.....SPOILER based on SPOILER above--------------------------------------------------------------------The creature is subterranean by nature yet travels the universe in a spaceship? To find new planets to burrow? Maybe the ship includes lots of dirt/caves so it feels right at home.----------------------End SPOLIER --------------------------------------------------Might as well hit me up with the full plot spoiler. I don't plan to see this one in theaters.[Edited on June 8, 2011 at 6:47 PM. Reason : -]

6/10/2011 1:28:22 AM
I guess I'll be one of the first to say I loved every minute of this movie.
6/10/2011 2:42:20 AM
I saw it at Imax last night, too. Not sure what's wrong with these haters. Its a great movie.
6/10/2011 9:10:35 AM
the guy on radio expects more from jj.abrams and steven spielberg.
6/10/2011 9:31:52 AM
It's all about the expectations you have going in.If you go in expecting an entertaining movie, you'll enjoy it.If you go in expecting a masterpiece and something overly original, you'll likely pick it apart and hate on it.
6/10/2011 9:56:50 AM
when i first saw the previews for this, I thought it was about a magic camera that made crazy shit happen. now that i know there is a monster, I am MUCH MUCH more likely to see it.
6/10/2011 10:14:32 AM
Dicks not using spoiler alerts ITT.

6/10/2011 10:48:33 AM
6/11/2011 9:59:50 PM
I enjoyed it, but it's not worth the IMAX premium.
6/11/2011 10:11:18 PM
I'm glad I read this thread. I just wanted to know what the creature was. Really have no desire to see this movie.
6/11/2011 11:51:17 PM
I have no desire either, but if it pops up on netflix and I'm bored as hell, it will be added to instant list.
6/12/2011 1:26:07 AM
Spoilers. Fuck you. You'd have to be pretty dense to say this is "ripping off" other Alien movies. District 9 wasn't exactly the first alien movie, nor the first with the motif of "omg we just we want to go home but the government won't let us!". Super 8 was very clearly a love letter to the movies J.J. Abrams would have grown up watching. For me it was more evocative of Stand By Me or The Goonies than anything sci-fi, considering the way the narrative was told by the kids. The Goonies was just on TV today, and I was like "Wow, that's strangely similar."Anyway, I liked the movie except for the ending. What a shitty, "lets wrap this up" ending. It was super cheesy, the score gets all sappy, no one talks, and the alien just leaves. I dislike the ending the more I reflected on it. The only good thing about the ending is The Case.
6/12/2011 2:20:54 AM
so was/is "mint" ever cool to say, and if so, is abrams trying to bring it back?maybe i'll start employing mint in day-to-day conversation.
6/12/2011 10:17:49 AM
production value
6/12/2011 1:36:14 PM
having the dorky fat kid say 'mint' a lot does not indicate that abrams is 'trying to bring it back.'[Edited on June 12, 2011 at 1:45 PM. Reason : .]
6/12/2011 1:44:09 PM
should've used sarcasm tags.
6/12/2011 4:39:53 PM
I think Signs was a much better movie
6/12/2011 6:23:22 PM
Signs was horrible.I will be seeing this. Hope its good.
6/12/2011 6:37:15 PM
Spoilers, fuck you.So the train crash was so ridiculously over the top, but it was still totally awesome.
6/12/2011 9:00:33 PM
I was thoroughly entertained by this movie. It's exactly what a summer blockbuster should be. Good explosions, some special effects and decent acting. Didn't love it, certainly didn't hate it.[Edited on June 12, 2011 at 9:14 PM. Reason : why do people hate JJ Abrams so much?]
6/12/2011 9:14:30 PM
^They hate him because he's popular. It's as simple as that.
6/12/2011 9:30:03 PM
wow at imdb, the top 250 thing on that site I used to have some respect more but it's pretty much falling off a cliff at this point, all you need is some hugely marketed/funded sci fi or fantasy movie and it's almost guaranteed top 50 in there
6/13/2011 12:10:55 AM
Saw it today and thought it was great. I kinda wished they had done more with just a typical "monster" but I really liked the characters. Good movie though, would recommend. Oh and "The Case" was awesome.
6/13/2011 12:19:33 AM
The movie was great!
6/13/2011 12:29:09 AM
I especially liked the zombie move "the case" that was shown during the credits. I grew up making pretty bad movies with my friends in the summer, the nostalgia was great.
