3/13/2011 11:39:28 PM
Wow I made that statement about 30 seconds into the video. I take that back. It went from looking like a fun flood to the end of the world REAL QUICK.

3/13/2011 11:52:11 PM
That is pretty hard core. Mother nature is nothing to fuck with. I saw a guy walking around at the very beginning I can only hope he make it to high ground in time.It does seem that for the most part most of the people in Japan were really prepared for the tsunami. I know that Japan has some of the best alert systems so hopefully it saved a lot of lives. Too many were lost though. I can't imagine what it would be like helplessly standing by watching all of your stuff just floating away down the sudden river flowing down your street. While being right here on the east coast I don't really need to worry about a huge tidal wave coming up but I do have to worry about hurricanes and big storm surges. The threat is real. Luckly with hurricanes I have plenty of time to pack my car up with all that I can fit in there and evacuate. However it would really suck to come back to find a home no longer here.
3/13/2011 11:52:17 PM
Wow, that was like meh until it started going up the stairs and ripping the metal railing off the concrete. Then the building they showed being filled with water suddenly drifted away. And the sound of that house grinding against the concrete wall. Jesus and it was way faster than that aerial view...
3/13/2011 11:53:35 PM
3/13/2011 11:54:29 PM
The big problem in Japan is that the area hit is populated mostly by elderly who were unable to evacuate. Most out the names listed of the dead are over 50 years old. Some towns are missing over half their people
3/13/2011 11:55:35 PM
how do I view video?
3/13/2011 11:58:35 PM
3/13/2011 11:59:58 PM
Holy shit. At least I would have 7 hours of warning to pack up my car and get the fuck off this island...but then I can only imagine the traffic that there would be trying to get out of here. I would only hope that if that happened it would happen during winter when there aren't a shit ton of tourist here also trying to get off the island.

3/14/2011 12:32:32 AM
I wonder how much warning they got? Those people on that roof at the end of the video are fucked. Why weren't they standing with the camera man?If it's a matter of getting across town to high ground in 15 minutes or so, that's the most intense moment of your life.
3/14/2011 1:32:19 AM
that video was insane.

I don't think there was nearly enough destruction to shift the overall japanese demographics at all.Besides, for every old person washed away by the tsunami, there's probably a dude who lost all of his sperm from the radiation So the demographics will stay the same.
3/22/2011 3:25:30 PM
Japanese men are already asexual. Radiation is the last of their reproductive concerns
3/22/2011 3:38:06 PM
jeez dude, the wave hits those fields and it looks not so bad until you see a boat and a house come by and get and idea of the scale of it
3/22/2011 3:48:46 PM
http://vimeo.com/21116470at 2:26 and 2:27 you can see that van driving away from it like OHHHHH SHITTTTTTTTTT GOOOOZZZZZZIRRRRRRRRAAAAAAA ISSSSSS HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL

3/22/2011 4:22:01 PM
Do tsunamis really crest as they get close to land, like a surfing wave? Or is it just a big wall of water moving onto land? How does an earthquake create a Tsunami? Does it really like push up in a quick burst? Or does it rock back and forth? And if it rocks back and forth, how does it linearly displace so much water so that the wave goes far inland?Scientists, answer me!
3/22/2011 4:52:39 PM
There are different types of earthquakes, depending on how the tectonic plates interact with each other. In tectonic plate subduction, one plate moves under another plate causing the seafloor to rise creating a gigantic wave.
3/22/2011 4:57:57 PM
^yep. The second type is when the ground splits, the water will gush into the valley creating velocity for an shit-ton of water. When the valley is full, the water is still traveling at a high rate of speed toward the fault line from both directions. It'll push into itself from opposite directions creating a mountain of water. Gravity will push down on the mountain of water and blam! you have a tsunami[Edited on March 22, 2011 at 4:59 PM. Reason : .]
3/22/2011 4:58:24 PM
I'm a little bit hesitant to say this shit is "awesome". I know awesome means awe-inspiring, but still. It's too graphic for me. JMO
3/22/2011 4:59:28 PM
Didn't this earthquake last like 2 minutes? Was that just for ppl in Japan who were like 100 miles away? And it sounds like a underwater quake just moves once. I mean, there is no wiggle wiggle womp. Just "oh s*#^!" ERRRRRK, oh boy that feels better. I mean the Earth said that.
3/23/2011 12:15:20 AM
I heard the sea shepherds caused the earthquake.
3/23/2011 5:48:32 AM
I didn't like sea shepherd, and what they said about the quake made me dislike them even more.I now really don't like them.
