The problem with switching to a hybrid/electric fleet is that nobody is going to buy one made by Mitsubishi.
3/2/2011 7:45:39 AM
Hahaha, good riddance. The Evo X felt like complete shit to drive. Would much rather be in the seat of a STI of the same year.I'm sure the EVO IX (more specifically the MR) will go the way of the ITR and be heralded and jacked up in value for many years to come.
3/2/2011 7:53:32 AM
damnit....i was thinking about getting an Evo in the next couple years but bow they are all going to be way over priced
3/2/2011 8:25:57 AM
like they werent already?
3/2/2011 8:29:23 AM
I always wanted the 2004 RS model

^^ NO MIVEC
3/2/2011 9:50:03 AM
Green is the new black in the auto industry. Considering that, at least in this country, Mitsu was largely ignored by the general population, it makes sense for them to try to reinvent themselves as the eco-conscious car company even if they do alienate a small but devoted segment of "car people" by killing the Evo. Bad for gearheads, yes--but I think it will be good for their bottom line.
3/2/2011 9:54:33 AM
Look at how many failed or barely successful hybrid and electric models have already littered the automotive grave yard. That is a highly risky strategy for a car company with limited resources. Going "all in" on this is a bad idea. If Mitsu can't build a decent and reliable "normal" car who's to say they won't screw up electrics and hybrids?
3/2/2011 10:03:49 AM
Chevy is trying to go "green" with the Volt and other spinoffs, but that doesn't mean they kill the Corvette and Camaro in the process.Fucking stupid Mitsu. Only thing I've enjoyed from Mitsu since the MU-2.
3/2/2011 10:23:13 AM
Wait wait wait...Mitsubishi is still in business?!

I read what you said to mean that it only makes sense if they're actually in the red on Evos.[Edited on March 2, 2011 at 2:23 PM. Reason : s]
3/2/2011 2:22:33 PM
i guess i meant both
3/2/2011 3:20:59 PM
the only car that brought people to Mitsubishi lots. Now they're going to lose their wanna be ricer fan base and not sell any regular lancers either.
3/2/2011 3:36:42 PM
ah, so Mitsubishi wants to be more like Honda then? You know, boring and poorly styled vehicles.
3/2/2011 4:18:45 PM
I think the accords are styled pretty fucking good. Body line wise id compair them to a bmw
3/2/2011 5:49:22 PM
While I would never buy one, I think new accord coupes are handsomely designed.
3/2/2011 5:54:44 PM
accord coupes look goodaccord sedans look fucking awfulmazda 6, now that looks very goodnissan maxima, that looks sexily aggressive as hell (altima looks ok)

death of the Evo is the death of Mitsubishi. Why would anyone want to buy junk that isn't fast. at least the evo was fast.
3/2/2011 7:11:47 PM
I like the evo IX MR, but would never buy one
3/2/2011 11:58:11 PM
^ I go through this every time I car shop. Time for round 4...
3/3/2011 7:46:42 AM
^^ Part of me wants another one.The interior sucks so bad, and the ricer look and image kinda turn me off, but man, what a hell of a car to drive.
3/3/2011 7:58:34 AM
The interior and the redneck image of the vette doesn't turn you off, so why hate the Evo?
3/3/2011 10:24:35 AM
^! ZINGi don't know about redneck.. i picture hairy chested Hawaiian shirt wearing (with chest hair exposed) short, slightly rotund drivers... but yeah equally bad.

Followup: Mitsubishi unconvincingly addresses Evo death rumors via Facebook *UPDATEWill the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X be the last Evo ever built? Rumors to that extent were flying fast and furious across the Internet yesterday. Mitsubishi has decided to address these claims by way of a post on its Facebook page:
3/3/2011 1:57:26 PM
lol, that comment by Mitsubishi is pretty much the nail in the coffin.
3/3/2011 3:05:48 PM
If it turns out to be true i hope my resale value holds a bit better...
3/3/2011 10:33:46 PM
I think the Evo 8/9's resale was secured when it became clear Mitsubishi (or anybody else) wouldn't make a comparable car. I wouldn't mind buying an Evo, but I'm just not going to do it when they've refused to depreciate in the last 2 years. I may buy one when people realize it's a Mitsubishi... if that point ever comes. I mean look at the Type-R, those are still worth so much. :/
3/4/2011 12:05:50 PM
Mitsubishi Evo not dead - just getting neutered?
3/4/2011 2:18:08 PM
Friend just got one. It's pretty awesome
3/4/2011 2:51:54 PM
^^in other words they're killing it off b/c they think they can sell more electric cars. I guess they've been drinking Obama's green energy Kool-Aid too much

So I'm in for another round of test driving Evos. I don't know why...apparently the more miles you drive the faster the value goes up. The market on these things is more ridiculous than ever.
7/30/2013 9:29:41 AM
having recently perused these on autotrader.... agreed.Still want the ol' 2004 RS
7/30/2013 9:49:13 AM
^^
7/30/2013 11:03:16 AM
I obviously didn't feel that way. I've got no reason not to revisit, though. There is a GSR and a MR at the dealer here that I'll probably go mess around in today. They're still outrageously priced though.
7/30/2013 11:06:38 AM
I liked my STi - never drove an Evo though, but they do look cooler. I'll stick with the 335i coupe I got to replace it
7/30/2013 11:18:30 AM
you guys will be a lot happier when you stop buying small, lightweight cars designed for activities you don't do and instead by larger, comfortable cars that are designed for things you do (large sedans or GT coups for eating up interstates for example)
