"Steam coming to TVs

Valve announces "big picture mode," which will offer controller support and ability to play games "on any TV or computer display in the house."

The Game Developers Conference is barely underway in San Francisco, but announcements are already beginning to pop up. This morning, Valve announced plans to expand its Steam content delivery service to the biggest screens in gamers' homes--their televisions.

Steam--coming soon to a TV near you.

"Our partners and customers have asked us to make Steam available in more places. With the introduction of Steam on the Mac, and soon in Portal 2 on the PS3, we've done just that," said Valve vice president of marketing Doug Lombardi. "With big picture mode, gaming opportunities for Steam partners and customers become possible via PCs and Macs on any TV or computer display in the house."

Valve did not elaborate on how Steam would be brought to televisions, but did say that big picture mode would "offer controller support and navigation designed for television interaction." It said it would share further details on the service with developers and publishers during private meetings at GDC.

As of last October, Steam had over 30 million customers worldwide. It is currently available for the PC and Mac, and will see some functionality arrive on the PlayStation 3 with the release of Portal 2 in April.

I'm on Steam as well. It's the best place to purchase reasonably priced Mac games. I play Day Of Defeat on steam every now and then a well.

the free games was a half joke, half shot in the dark comment

If I missed the thread, my bad, just wanted to point out that free 2 play games are making their way over to Steam, mostly MMOs (Superheroes, Tribes-like, fantasy, cartoonish?) but also a shooter based off the Unreal engine. Probably half year to a year for f2p games to migrate to Xbox360, but I'm looking forward to Battlefield Heroes.

Quote :
"[Steam] today introduced support for Free to Play (F2P) Games on Steam with the launch of five F2P games.

Available immediately, the launch titles are Spiral Knights, Forsaken Worlds, Champions Online: Free for All, Global Agenda: Free Agent, and Alliance of Valliant Arms (AVA). "

Also I think most of these people don't play anymore, but there is a TWW community on Steam with 50+ members: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/tww

I also have gift copies of TF2, HL2, and Portal (original, not Portal2) that have been sitting in my account for ages if anyone doesn't happen to already have a copy of these.

Lol, I guess I made this thread.

I have dungeon defenders as well...but yet to play it as my limited play time has been dominated by Skyrim.
