Do such laws not apply to private schools?

Not sure about NC, but here's the relevant NJ law:

That little kid is lucky the cops didn't shoot first and ask questions later

WTF? This isn't an issue of public vs. private schools, this is an issue of following a law. If we think it's outrageous, and that's certainly a reasonable belief given the facts here, then it is up to the people to exercise their rights and put pressure on the legislature to change the law. The police just follow the law, although I can't see a D.A. prosecuting here.Seemingly it's designed for air guns or other guns that are designed to look real, and thus create a threat because of the potential response, and this is an example of the law catching people in the net that it wasn't designed to catch.

i'm certain the cops didnt enjoy citing a 7 year old, but have to enforce the law as it is written.the charge will either be dismissed or equivalent to a PFJ. there will be no lasting legal ramifications for the child.the kid (and parents) learned a lesson: you don't fucking bring guns to school. ever.

Considering the designs that Nerf puts out these days, I'm not surprised. Fully-automatic gas-powered small arms with infared sights. Can accept armor-piercing full-metal-jacket or depleted uranium high-explosive foam rounds.

News like this is why when I was teaching I confiscated the only toy gun I saw a kid with, as opposed to blowing the whole thing out of proportions. His was a 5'' long bolt action rifle model. I didn't feel a some what interesting model needed to have the kid suspended and charges filed.

We know what anti-gun groups are, which ones are obama a part of. Some of those are lobbying organizations that don't really have members, which groups is obama a member of? I ask simply because except for some pretty mild rhetoric, I can't think of anything Obama has done since he was in the IL state senate that has any kind of substantial impact on gun rights.
