I hope and pray that this 1) true and 2) that is doesn't diminish the original

http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/02/01/big-lebowski-2-in-the-works/

Quote :
"Could Tara Reid have provided us with the best "cat out of the bag" moment so far this year?

Hollywood.tv recently asked Tara Reid, who played the toenail-polished Bunny in the oft-quoted "The Big Lebowski," what projects she's got coming up and, yes, she said it: "Big Lebowski 2."

"The whole cast should be coming back for that," she said.

Is it true? Well, there have been rumblings from "Lebowski" cast members in the past, but nothing definitive. The Dude himself, Jeff Bridges, teamed up with "Lebowski" directors, the Coen Brothers, for "True Grit." He told MTV News back in July that "there were no plans, man" to reunite for "Lebowski 2," but said, "If it happens, what a wonderful surprise.""

There is always the danger that fucking with a classic could diminish the overall project.

I guess a better way to say it is if the sequel sucks, I'd rather them just leave it alone.

I think this is a mistake. Every sequel made 10+ years after the original is a money grab and usually sucks.

To the second point, sequels can help or hurt the original. When you think about the Matrix, you think about all three movies, not the awesome first one. Same with Jurassic Park and POTC. Conversely, if a movie is so shitty that most people don't even associate it with the original (Caddyshack 2, Crystal Skull), than it won't have an adverse effect.

On the other hand, a mediocre original can benefit from superior sequels. Batman Begins by itself was decent, but if the third one is as good as the second, than most people will eventually lump the three together, boosting the perception of BB in the process.

Could be bad or good. If the original team and actors are in it then it should at least be decent but I doubt it will live up to the first one.

^ The Color of Money is pretty good, and I enjoyed certain parts of Clerks 2.

It's a movie that, as a whole, is boring as shit. It just happens to have more than it's fair share of funny one liners and funny scenes.

From original link:
Quote :
"Update, 2/2/2011 1:00 p.m.: Not so fast, "Big Lebowski" fans. EW.com reached out to a Coen Brothers rep who said there are no plans for "Big Lebowski 2." A spokesperson for Tara Reid added to EW, “She heard Jeff Bridges say that he wanted to make 'Big Lebowski 2' and have all the original cast members in it, so she may have misspoke, thinking that included her based on what Jeff said.”"

I wonder if Tara Reid actually will suck your cock for a thousand dollars at this point in her career.

I am by no means a movie snob and I have a great appreciation for most movies that folks deem awesome, but for some reason I just don't get why people lose their minds when it comes to this film.

The thing about this movie is that every goddamn character in it is fantastic. Maude, Donny, Jackie, Smokey, Da Fino, Marty, Knox Harrington, etc. Hell, even Arthur Digby Sellers is interesting, and he's just a guy in a tube.

I heard they aren't making it because John Goodman refused to roll on Shabbos.
