I hope and pray that this 1) true and 2) that is doesn't diminish the originalhttp://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/02/01/big-lebowski-2-in-the-works/

why would a sequel hurt the original, EVER
2/2/2011 10:41:36 AM
There is always the danger that fucking with a classic could diminish the overall project.I guess a better way to say it is if the sequel sucks, I'd rather them just leave it alone.[Edited on February 2, 2011 at 10:46 AM. Reason : .]

I think this is a mistake. Every sequel made 10+ years after the original is a money grab and usually sucks. To the second point, sequels can help or hurt the original. When you think about the Matrix, you think about all three movies, not the awesome first one. Same with Jurassic Park and POTC. Conversely, if a movie is so shitty that most people don't even associate it with the original (Caddyshack 2, Crystal Skull), than it won't have an adverse effect. On the other hand, a mediocre original can benefit from superior sequels. Batman Begins by itself was decent, but if the third one is as good as the second, than most people will eventually lump the three together, boosting the perception of BB in the process.

this would be the worst thing ever.**first world problems

Could be bad or good. If the original team and actors are in it then it should at least be decent but I doubt it will live up to the first one.

I am by no means a movie snob and I have a great appreciation for most movies that folks deem awesome, but for some reason I just don't get why people lose their minds when it comes to this film.
2/3/2011 1:03:05 AM
The thing about this movie is that every goddamn character in it is fantastic. Maude, Donny, Jackie, Smokey, Da Fino, Marty, Knox Harrington, etc. Hell, even Arthur Digby Sellers is interesting, and he's just a guy in a tube.

I heard they aren't making it because John Goodman refused to roll on Shabbos.
