I would do it, but I don’t know the Photoshop

in all serious get the design prem. version. You might use dreamweaver (misc web stuff), illustrator (vector graphics), and adobe 9 for printing to PDF and such. Some printing companies use and like indesign as well.

Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, that's about all I use (all of which are in standard), and I'm in the design industry.

Premium is more or less for web content. If you don't do web design, there's no need for Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver.

There's free and cheaper alternatives, but the downside is that they are different UI's.

For raster = GIMP
For vector = Inkscape
For publishing = Scribus
For PDF = BlueBeam (but it's not going to save you any money if you can get the Design Suite for $200)

... the obvious, glaring question is what in the world are you doing?

If you're thinking of doing nothing more than some photo editing with it save your cash and get Lightroom on academic discount somewhere.

Before I left NCSU I snapped a copy of Mastersuite CS3, but I do video work all day and web development on the side. Illistrator is about the least used program for me, followed by Dreamweaver (we're using content management for everything now.) Even on discount it was like freaking $850
