I had really good experiences with Wildwoods of Lake Johnson. It's a great location, right off the Jones Franklin 440 exit. Right next to the walking/jogging trails off Lake Johnson. Very wooded feeling. At least 3 or 4 of my friends lived there too.

also very close to Wildwoods is The Enclave at Crossroads...last I checked, a 2 bedroom was less than 900

^^ I lived at Wildwoods too, I did like them (minus the building beside us catching fire)Might go back to them.
1/16/2011 11:01:11 AM
Ditto on Wildwoods. We've lived there for 3 years, and we love it.

We live in Hidden Oaks in Cary. Nice wooded location very close to Umstead. Several supermarkets, bars, restaurants within walking distance. The management guys here are really nice and on the ball about things. We pay $580 for 2bdrm.

I really like where I live near North Hills. It's about a 20 minute drive to campus and it's in a really safe, quiet area. I am not posting the name but you can message me if you want more info.

University Oaks. It's the best.

The following is to be taken seriously:Greyhound Bus Station
1/16/2011 2:52:42 PM
Anything else, something inside Cary would be fine too, provided it's East Cary and not too far away from NCSU
1/17/2011 9:32:26 AM
I liked Clarion Crossing when I lived there. It could be a little loud at times but not so much as University Woods or similar places.
1/17/2011 9:34:14 AM
Pretty sure your apartment was the loudest one in the building.

^ and there is also a little group of high schoolers who have no respect for personal property and will mill around in the parking lot and lean/sit on your car. The quality of tenant was definitely going down hill when we moved. Bass was thumping from all directions at all hours and would continue even after you went over and politely asked they shut it off and even after I not so politely asked that they shut it off. It took Skwinkle calling the police one time before this one guy who played bass in his SUV in the parking lot for like an hour+ a day to stop. It would literally shake the walls. Also, get ready to get fucked when you move out because the management tries to charge you for bogus 'damages'.[Edited on January 17, 2011 at 10:02 AM. Reason : they tried to charge 1200 bucks in 'damages']

Yes, that is so.
1/17/2011 10:25:29 AM
Just checking. I forgot we were neighbors during that time.
1/17/2011 10:33:11 AM
So anyone familiar enough with Legends at Cary Towne to know if they would waive their income requirement if I paid for a 12 months lease in full?
1/17/2011 10:51:15 AM
no drug dealers allowed ... pretty sure theres something about that in their lease agreement ...
1/17/2011 1:13:39 PM
I'm pretty sure as long as they're getting their money they shouldnt give a damn
1/17/2011 1:29:52 PM
Camden Manor Park by Crabtree Mall.Quiet, 2 pools, 2 gyms, direct access to Raleigh Greenway, 15 minutes to NCSU.
1/17/2011 2:32:39 PM
^ Way too expensive.
1/18/2011 2:41:22 PM
I like it over here at Thornhill...right off lynn across from Raleigh Grande...though that might be at your outer radius
1/18/2011 3:43:51 PM
The Links, off of Tryon next to Raleigh golf association10 min from centennial, 15min from main campus$795 for 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bath

I enjoyed my couple of years living in Olde Raleigh on Duraleigh, about a mile from Edwards Mill Rd. I think I paid around $700-$800 for a 950 sqft 2br/2bath apt. That was a few years ago, so it has probably gone up.

Wildwoods seemed nice. Knew several people that lived out there. Also you could check out the complexes on Hillsborough going toward downtown--Cameron Court, Grosvenor Gardens, Boylan Apts, Shelton Arms, and St. Mary's Apts. All older buildings built in the 30's and 40's, and as such are going to have hardwood floors, nice big windows, and a lot of character (both good and bad). Green spaces, mature trees, and walkable both to NCSU and to downtown. They have their drawbacks--limited parking, laundry rooms rather than in-unit washers and dryers, older appliances in some cases--but pretty cool just the same. There are also the Cameron Village Condos, in between CV, Broughton, and St. Mary's street. Most of them are owner-occupied but you can find rentals now and again. Nice area, hardwood floors, reasonably spacious.

Been a few years, but I was a fan of http://www.sumtersquareapartments.com/

I doubt that much has changed in the last two months. It's possible we were in a bad section of the complex, or you are in a good section. The lower part down by the pool seems like it's a ton better than the upper part where I was. They always came out for maintenance requests the next day, but many times would leave a note with the equivalent of "that wasn't actually broken" when it really was. When I moved in I didn't have a cabinet door on my hall bathroom cabinet for 3 months because when I moved in the maintenance guy said they had ordered new ones and they would be replaced in 6 weeks when they came in. I checked with them 6 weeks later and they hadn't ordered anything. My guest toilet was broken the entire time I lived there and overflowed all the time because whenever I put in an order they just snaked the line and wouldn't admit anything worse was wrong with it. On my move-in sheet I noted "fraying around edges of carpet" on every single room, and they still tried to claim that all the carpet was brand new when I moved in and wanted to charge me $1,000 just for carpet. That's just off the top of my head. I sincerely hope your experience continues to be better than mine.

http://www.waterfordforestapts.com/Lived there for 4.5yrs. It's not a college complex, though there are college students that live there. Also, they have fairly large 2bdrms (1200+sqft) and a nice pool that isn't just a hole in the concrete.

Anyone try Oberlin Court or Raleigh Towne Apts? Both seem like nice locations.
1/19/2011 6:04:44 PM
^^^^^My buddy used to live there and calls it dumpster square...i'd recommend bennington woods on cary parkway near holly springs road. it is basically right there at crossroads. we lived there 2 years and it was fine

Has anyone ever lived in The Landings or Sailboat?
2/5/2011 12:23:37 PM
Hands down- Country Club Homes- right there at Oberlin and Fairview Rd. Best location evar. great apartments too.
2/5/2011 12:26:44 PM
So trying to decide between a 1bdrm at Legends and a 2bdrm at WildwoodsDiscuss.
4/24/2011 3:04:51 PM
^ 3 I'm guessing Sailboat is one of the ones on Lake Lynn. I had a friend that used to live there and they were okay but nothing to write home about.
4/24/2011 3:25:44 PM
^^^nice quiet place b/c they don't rent to students

Really have to rep Blue Ridge Apartments. The apartments themselves are super nice, almost brand new, and fairly affordable (440 per room base, 2 bedrooms). At it's front door is the Westgrove Park and Ride bus, which is timed and reliable.Easy to the beltline, downtown, et cetera. Although I will note, if you need a really nice non-NCSU gym, you'd have to use Preiss's and nice it is not. This is the only apartment complex property that Preiss manages, but does not own, which makes a huge difference in quality (it's so much nicer than any other Preiss place, you'd never think they had ever so much as looked at it).
4/24/2011 9:30:32 PM
I need a 1 bedroom, loft is fine, preferably in walking distance to something, affordable
4/24/2011 9:45:25 PM
Hidden oaks and hyde park have gone to shit from what I've gathered from friends, based on Skwinkle and Shinte's experiences.I had a friend live in (the) Ashborough off Dillard and absolutely love it, and Shinte almost moved there. Its about $800 a month though for like a 1 bedroom, not sure what other prices are. If I was going to live in the area I would seriously look into it.
4/24/2011 10:20:57 PM
the ashborough is too far from things for me to pay $800 a month. i can afford that, but i can get a place downtown for that. ideally i'm hoping to stick to around $600/month too since i'll be living out of hotels a lot anyways.plus its too close to the gf
