Due to slightly elevated triglycerides, slightly depressed HDL (good cholesterol), and prehypertension blood pressure levels, my doc has recommended more exercise and taking fish oil to combat these issues and maintain a healthy heart. She recommends 2400 mg of fish oil and the particular brand I have has 720 mg of EPA and DHA, the two most important of the Omega-3 fatty acids. This generic brand also has been purified so there's no mercury/PCB's/dioxins. I've also been reading that (among other things) that fish oil helps out with ADD and depression.Anybody have any input on brands, when to take the medicine (with meals, before bed, etc.), side effects, or benefits you have encountered? Thanks!

i take fish oil, about 600 mg every other day. i would recommend going with krill oil, or pure untreated fish oil.probably the best fish oil you can buy:http://www.vitalchoice.comkrill oil:http://www.vitalchoice.comhttp://krilloil.mercola.comhttp://www.schiffmegared.comhttp://www.krilloil.cominfo on krill oil: http://krilloil.mercola.comhttp://krilloil.mercola.com/krill-oil.html (video)http://krilloil.mercola.com/antarctic-krill-oil.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krill_oilhttp://krilloil.com/krill-oil-benefits.html

How the fuck do you define "too much" ?You worried about ischemic stroke?

I picked up some Omega-3 gummies one time. They were the only omega 3 supplement I've found that didn't make me constantly burp up the fish oil taste.

no, 7g is not too much... i would do it in a heartbeat if i could afford it.i just meant that for the OP, it is not necessary as he mentioned slightly out of line triglyceride and HDL levels.

freeze the fish oil capsules so you don't get that gross fish burp later. my freshman year roommate taught me that. as for brands

Kirkland's Signature is pretty goodI've never had problems with fish burps due to 1 of 2 things1) I buy the kind with the enteric coating2) (if not doing 1) I take it with food

even if i eat them with food I'd still get that gross fish burp. freezing them stopped it though

365 Brand (Whole Foods house brand) is only ~$12 for 250 softgels. Seems to be decent enough: http://www.ifosprogram.com/files/Final%20IFOS-ANS,%20Batch%20511157,%20Mar.%206th,%202006.pdfWhat do you guys think?

I give both my dogs fish oil pills with their dinner. It's great for their coats and skin.

What I want to know...can those who take it for inflammation actually tell any difference? How about for others...what about your well being in general?

I've read that you want supplements with more DHA than EPA. They are hard to find though since everything I've seen has more EPA, but the Nature Made ones have close to an equal amount of both and I figure that's close enough.

Go to http://www.gnc.comThey have everything: only DHA, only EPA, mixture of both, etc.

So does everyone on here take it just to improve overall health or use it for specific indications like cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure, etc.? Any before and after stories?
