There is a total lunar eclipse early Tuesday morning. Total from 2:40am - 3:53am with the greatest eclipse at 3:17am. Its probably too late/early, but is anyone going to try to catch it?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_2010_lunar_eclipse

I hope some nerds take pictures of it and they find their way into this thread so I can see it.
12/17/2010 2:11:18 AM
I'll see it. I'm always up late anyway, and at that point I'll be deep in the country, far from light pollution.
12/17/2010 2:26:43 AM
^^ i just picked up a 70-200mm lens for my DSLR. will def try to grab it if i'm up
12/17/2010 2:36:36 AM
I just realized that if I'm up this late on Tuesday a.m. I could just go outside and see it too.
12/17/2010 2:49:57 AM

Or the stars that will become visible while the moon is behind the earth.
12/17/2010 6:58:28 PM
I want to watch it from here
12/17/2010 7:31:49 PM
First year since AD 1378 that a lunar eclipse coincides with the winter solstice. source: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/12/17/lunar-eclipse-and-winter-solstice-to-coincide-first-time-since-1378/same link also shows a NOAA skycover prediction for the eclipse. Looks about 50/50 for Triangle.
12/17/2010 11:10:36 PM
I WILL BE WATCHING FROM THE CHURCH ROOF
12/17/2010 11:23:05 PM
I'll be watching, though it has happened as recently as the 1600s hasn't it...?
12/17/2010 11:38:22 PM
Might have to wake up in the middle of the night and go over to the beach to watch it.
12/17/2010 11:43:35 PM
I need to find a place that won't have much light pollution and a good view of the western sky...If its not too cloudy that is
12/18/2010 4:00:13 AM
ugh its gonna be so freakin cold, guess i'll try to look at it though. someone bump this thread around 1 am monday LOL
12/18/2010 4:02:28 AM
Looks like it'll be cloudy around here
12/20/2010 9:46:31 AM
I think it would probably be best for me to head out to the end of a pier to watch it, far away from lights...or some random place on the beach.Wish I had a camera that I could adjust the exposure on so I can get a good picture of it.
12/20/2010 9:48:31 AM
I want to see it but I have no idea where I would go for something like this.
12/20/2010 11:14:35 AM
^ya, any suggestions on best way to view this from any of you people
12/20/2010 11:17:49 AM
Go to a park in the middle of bumfuck.I'm thinkin about going over near falls lake.
12/20/2010 12:33:25 PM
Yeah, definitely far from city lights, and the moon will be to the west so don't head east I'm going to try somewhere off 401 south of raleigh/garner or jordan lake, but that depends on if its cloudy.
12/20/2010 3:55:00 PM
Why can't the damn moon be eclipsed earlier? I gotta get my beauty rest!
12/20/2010 3:56:27 PM
Clouds will be rolling in tonight. Hope it waits until after the eclipse.
12/20/2010 3:57:41 PM
I wanna see this and photograph it, where are all the photographers going?
12/20/2010 4:43:17 PM
blah, its supposed to snow here tonight
12/20/2010 4:54:01 PM
I'm going to try and photograph it but the biggest lens i have is a 55-200mm. The moon will look rather small in that lens... I'm going to try and rig it and hold the binoculars up to the camera
12/20/2010 5:08:23 PM
12/20/2010 6:26:54 PM
^ yeah, you should have no problem assuming you haven't been staring at magnesium flares for fun...might not be as dramatic but you should be able to easily see the whole thing (barring clouds)
12/20/2010 6:30:09 PM
so anyone going to Falls Lake or Umstead to watch this?
12/20/2010 6:44:59 PM
why?
12/20/2010 6:55:00 PM
^^I'm going to your mom's house to watch it. ZING!
12/20/2010 7:11:08 PM

12/20/2010 10:35:11 PM

12/20/2010 10:36:34 PM
Think I'm heading to Jordan Lake around midnight... hopefully will yield some good pictures
12/20/2010 10:38:39 PM
why do they always have these things so late night? don't they know us old folks have to get up early?
12/20/2010 10:39:05 PM
"they" being the gods?
12/20/2010 10:39:50 PM
yeah, Zeus and the Gang.
12/20/2010 10:40:49 PM
All clouded up here.
12/21/2010 12:21:51 AM
i'll catch the next one in a few months.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_2011_lunar_eclipseaka the warm one]
12/21/2010 12:22:39 AM
^^ i'm in durham and the clouds are pretty thin, can see the moon pretty easily through them. only issue now is finding someplace with no light pollution. maybe i should go deep in the woods...
12/21/2010 12:26:00 AM
just noticed the June one won't come around these parts.still don't care.
12/21/2010 12:26:59 AM
on that note, holy shit its cold tonight[Edited on December 21, 2010 at 12:30 AM. Reason : ]
12/21/2010 12:29:28 AM
I'm quite a ways west of Durham, and while it was visible earlier now there's just a vague spot in the sky that brighter than the others. I may give it one more shot but frankly it's looking like a no-go here.
12/21/2010 12:31:49 AM
went outside and can't find the mooni have a lot of trees around my house and i dont feel like going for a drive
12/21/2010 12:34:11 AM
it's still really bright here
12/21/2010 1:04:38 AM
just went outside with the binoculars, and the moon still looks moon-y. When is it supposed to become freaky?
