I've taken both in the past year. 216 is super easy and 226 was, to me, at least, pretty hard. Nothing out of the ordinary to expect. 216 is very basic computer science. 226 is more of a math class--it's symbolic logic, proofs, stuff like that. I did very little work for 216 and a ridiculous amount of work for 226.Like I said, YMMV, but 226 was hard. I would highly recommend buying the Solutions Guide for the textbook, because the back of the book ain't no help. And you betta learn that shit, too, because you're gonna need it for 316.]

I had 226 DE last semester and it was by far the most challenging of my classes (CSC116, MA305, & ST370).I am assuming you will have Alan Watkins as the instructor. He seems like a nice guy. My final numeric grade put me at an A- but he bumped it to an A, without me asking, which brought my term GPA to 4.0.I definitely recommend getting the student solutions manual though it's not perfect and only covers the odd questions in the book. The answers in the back won't help you with anything. You can use the 5th edition textbook as well and it should only cost a few bucks on Amazon. As for his exams it seemed like most of the questions that showed up were pulled from his lecture notes so make sure you print them and follow along with the videos. For me personally the first test was the toughest.

I had Balik for 216. I almost switched my major because of her and eventually dropped the class and retook it with the IBMer who actually knew how to teach.I didn't have Watkins for 226. I forget his name, but his TA Tiffany Barnes pretty much taught the class. I found it enjoyable. As mentioned above 216 is very basic computer science. 226 is more of a math class--it's symbolic logic, proofs, boolean algebra[Edited on February 7, 2011 at 4:21 PM. Reason : ]
