My vote goes to Winter's Bone, narrowly edging out The Social Network. That said, there are a lot of films coming out this month that could potentially top the list (in order of likeliness to be awesome): Black Swan, True Grit, 127 Hours, Biutiful, Blue Valentine, and The FighterWhat do you guys think is the film of the year so far? Paging spöokyjon.

Inception or The TownI haven't heard of Winter's Bone and had no interest in seeing The Social Network.
12/1/2010 1:55:15 PM
Winter's Bone is a fabulous film and will receive some Oscar nods, but it will not be best of the year in that sense or even my mind. Verdict is still out for me.

The Expendables

Inception...But these get honorable mention:Toy Story 3Shutter IslandKick-Ass[Edited on December 1, 2010 at 2:04 PM. Reason : modified]

Yeah, Inception was pretty awesome. That'd probably be in my top 10.
12/1/2010 2:13:31 PM
IBT irrational Shutter Island hate
12/1/2010 2:15:30 PM
I liked Shutter Island waaaay more than I liked Inception
12/1/2010 2:24:15 PM
12/1/2010 2:28:10 PM
I'd say Inception, but that's just my opinion.
12/1/2010 3:16:44 PM
Top 3 finishers: Inception, The Social Network, and Shutter Island.Best actor: Leo DiCap in Shutter Island

I didn't see very many movies this year so I'll go with Inceptiondon't understand the Shutter Island love. I figured out the twist within the first 5 minutes.
12/1/2010 3:51:26 PM
Inception was stupid. Why didn't Leo just have his kids flown to wherever Michael Cain was staying. Or why didn't MC fly back and get them and bring them back?
12/1/2010 3:56:49 PM
The Town and TSN were my two fave for the year so far, but I'm holding out for Black Swan and The Fighter b4 I pick. I enjoyed Inception and Shutter Island, but like ^ I figured out SI's twist early and my love for the visual w/ Inception's fight btw JGL and the other guy in the hall is the clincher for me.
12/1/2010 4:01:28 PM
Scott Pilgrim was probably my favorite movie, though I don't expect it to win any awards. Inception comes in at second, with The Social Network falling somewhere behind that.
12/1/2010 4:08:32 PM
there is only one answer to this question:
12/1/2010 4:16:38 PM
^^^^ Leo was wanted for murder and MC obviously didn't have custody of the kids. It's not exactly easy to have two kids flown to Europe when the US Govt is looking for their father as a murder suspect. Besides, it's a movie. Is this a personal list of "Best movie of the year" or what we think will win awards? If personal,1. Scott Pilgrim2. Toy Story 33. Inception4. Shutter Island5. The Social Network6. Let Me In7. Cyrus8. MacheteBut I haven't seen:The Town, Harry Potter 6a, How to Train Your Dragon, Winter's BoneAnd I'm looking forward to:127 Hours, Black Swan, Tron: Legacy, True Grit[Edited on December 1, 2010 at 4:31 PM. I haven't seen the movie, so I'm just going on what I've heard here, but I get the sense that it wouldn't be in this conversation at all if it wasn't DiCaprio and Scorsese. Everything I've heard has discouraged me from seeing it.
12/1/2010 7:48:45 PM
Im pretty sure these movies will not win best picture, inception, shutter island, toy story 3they're all good but not really best picture worthywhich leaves the best of what is coming out this month as the winner
12/1/2010 9:39:27 PM
Inception. Harry Potter 7
12/1/2010 9:52:39 PM
SCOTT PILGRIM
12/1/2010 10:19:54 PM
So Scott Pilgrim really is a really good movie? I kind of casually dismissed it because of the Michael Cera oversaturation, but I keep hearing that it's legitimately a good flick.Or were you being sarcastic?
12/1/2010 10:33:21 PM
hmmm I haven't seen a lot of movies this year but I'd have to say Social Network, Shutter Island, and Kick-Ass were the best of the ones I saw
12/1/2010 11:00:35 PM
Inception and How To Train Your Dragon have been my favorites by far.Social Network was also awesome.I have not seen The Town or Shutter Island or Winter's Bone. Never actually heard of Winter's Bone.Just watched the trailer for winters bone. Looks good. Its got Sol Star and Mr W from Deadwood in it. I've noticed the Deadwood actors seem to show up together a lot of places.[Edited on December 2, 2010 at 8:06 AM. Reason : *]

Toy Story 3 was a great movie, probably my favorite of all of them, but I would probably have to say Inception for me. But I haven't seen The Town or Shutter Island yet, and am not intrigued by social network or scott pilgrim

How to Train Your Dragon was awesome.I wish I had seen Winter's Bone. But The Social Network and Inception were also great...I enjoyed TSN slightly more, but I can see Inception winning (w/o having seen Winter's Bone of course). 127 Hours has been getting a ton of press though and I am definitely seeing it when it comes to Charleston.
12/2/2010 8:52:12 AM
For anyone interested, Winter's Bone is actually out on DVD now and I bet it's fairly easy to find a torrent online.

I would go with The Social Network so far.I believe True Grit will beat it out though.

He also played The Droop-Eyed Cocksucker.I'm having a tough time picking something out this year, although I still haven't seen The Social Network, The Town, or any of the Toy Story movies (dunno how that happened).Winter's Bone was great, but I didn't think it was the best movie ever or anything. John Hawkes was such a badass, and Jennifer Lawrence was great.Inception had the biggest immediate effect on me of anything I've seen this year, even if parts of it don't make a lot of sense in the universe of rules they set up within the film. There's a shitload of stuff I'll be seeing in the next two weeks (Black Swan, True Grit, The King's Speech) that are viable candidates as well.

Scott Pilgrim was great, probably the most fun I've had at the theater this year, but yeah, it's not going to win anything.
12/15/2010 1:13:48 PM
just watched The Kids Are All Right over the weekend and really enjoyed it. I recommend it.
12/15/2010 1:26:22 PM
I've been catching up on movies lately since all the shows I watch are off the air until January...watched Winters Bone last night, which was good but not great though it did have some impressive performances. Scott Pilgrim was pretty fun, but in no way the best movie of the year. At this point The Town and Inception are the best movies I've seen this year.
12/15/2010 1:32:01 PM
I still haven't seen quite a bit (The Social Network, The Fighter, Blue Valentine, and The Town for starters), but my top three as of now would be The King's Speech, Inception, and How to Train Your Dragon (seriously).
1/1/2011 11:39:37 AM
^I actually have nothing against that top 3. I LOVED "How to Train Your Dragon.""The Kings Speech" is definitely my #1. "Black Swan" is probably #2. Might have to put "The Town" at #3.The rest of my tops include "How to Train Your Dragon", "True Grit", "Inception", "127 Hours", "The Fighter", and "The Social Network."Only movie I really regret not seeing is "Winter's Bone."
