I didn't really think it possible, but I could have sworn I saw a cable at wally world the other day that was VGA (with headphone input) and converted to HDMI. it may not literally convert, maybe adapt... cause it doesnt make sense as it looked.BUTwas looking for a cable like it on monoprice and don't see itany ideas for online purchase?

Analog to digital. Does not compute. You needs a converter box. Or something.

^^ Actually I doubt I will. I didn't pay attention to the genders, and it makes so much more sense to have HDMI to VGA with a 3.5 for external speakers or line in.Damnit I am stupid.^ Yeah I just had a huge gas bubble release from my brain fart, I think... I was thinking I could at least get some 480 out of the ole laptops if I needed to [Edited on November 23, 2010 at 12:20 AM. Reason : to point out that I was talking to myself, above is a valid point]

^^ uh wrong. It is always true.No standards support digital over vga cabling. The DVI-VGA converter works because DVI is a hybrid connector. There is DVI-I (carries both digital and analog signals), DVI-D (digital only) and DVI-A (analog only). The little converter just ignores the digital dvi signal to give you an analog VGA pinout. If you have a DVI output, you can get cables to go DVI to VGA (assuming it is a DVI-I port, which most are), or you can get a cable to go DVI to HDMI (which will work as long as the television doesn't require an HDCP connection). Those are your cheap options. There is NO way you're going to get a VGA source to hook up to a DVI or HDMI target without a conversion box in the middle.

If you're going to post a "definitive" response like that, at least be correct about it. (to wwwebsurfer).Had he qualified his statements at all, I wouldn't mind. But his entire post was wrong and very misleading. And could have easily led you down a path of spending money on adapters that may not work at all.I ask questions on here all the time, and a big part of my job is asking questions and I'm wrong ALL the time Not a fearful person at all, or a prideful person. I just like to help out folks who ask for help, to get accurate information and have good options to solve their own problems.

here is my thread a few months back going from HDMI to VGA.message_topic.aspx?topic=600917I ended going with the boxes in my last post.I currenly have two of these suckers on my bosses's laptop going through a powered USB port. so USB -> HDMI is possible. The quality is GOOD for outlook/excel/youtube..hardly any lag and the text is very crystal clear. Wouldn't plan on gaming on these things. You can see the lag on an intense screen saver.
