I've got a gig coming up and I need to rent or borrow a shotgun microphone.Does anyone have one?Are there any businesses in the area that would have this equipment?I have done some Googling but there hasn't been as much as I expected there to be and most of the places just do event sound so we're only talking about wireless mics and mics appropriate for live sound reinforcement not shotgun mics.

You can grab a low-end Rode for like $125. What kind of distance are you trying to cover? Cone size translates into cost almost directly.

I, too, have neighbors I like to listen to.

This isn't about distance so much as it is about quality of the recordingI have been hired to do a tape sync for a radio program but I don't currently have a good shotgun mic and they expect a professional broadcast quality microphoneat minimum we're talking a Sennheiser ME-66 or a Rode NTG-3 or somethingI think I'm going to rent a Sennheiser MKH 415 from Harris-Chewning (I need to give them a call on Monday) - it comes with a shock mount and pistol grip which are ideal for my purposes

For what it's worth FM broadcasts compress the bejesus out of audio. If you had a cheaper mic and didn't tell anyone I doubt they'd notice. That sennheiser is just $200 new, just buy one...

Where did you find a 415 for $200?Please to link me.Also this program is not just for FM broadcast - it is also a podcast. I'm trying my best to maintain my professional integrity
