How much does it cost to get a dog inspected and given a USDA stamped bill of health? Can any vet do this?

And how much is it to microchip a dog these days?

You should be able to get a health certificate from any licensed veterinarian. At the last hospital I worked for, I think we charged around $40-50 for one, and that included the office visit, exam and paperwork.

While I'm not a vet, I have worked various positions at a few different vet clinics in high school and between under grad and grad school. I'm guessing between $35 to $55 depending on the vet. I can't remember exactly any more. I feel like maybe we cut you some slack if the pet had a recent yearly exam or something. And I know for senior pets they got more extensive exams than younger pets. I know that resulted in different prices for yearly exams, can't remember if age played into health certificate related exam prices or not.

Microchipping I'm thinking 20 to 45 maybe? I'm even less sure on that one. It depends on what brand microchip, how much the vet charges for service, and whether or not the registration price is built in or if they are only charging you for the service of injecting it and the product (the microchip) and then letting you register online at home and paying for it yourself. The real question is what would be your willingness to pay to get your dog back if it was lost. What would you put on reward-if-found poster? If you'd put $50 or more, then get the microchip now.

At the shelter we charged $15 for a microchip but I'm pretty sure that's not what the vet charges... but, basically, expect a figure above that

I was fortunate to be able to get my dogs microchipped for free at the Dogs in the Park event this year at Moore Square. If you have the time - you could research when the next rabies/microchip clinic will be... a LOT of the time they do it for free/reduced price which includes registration (the AKC sponsors a lot of groups, and will supply the chips and include the registration)

^^^ Not my pet, a client's. He keeps getting pissed at me because I'm telling him he won't see his dog until at least June of next year. Not my fault the quarantine rules are so strict
