Not the fastest skater, but crafty and has a damn good shot. Scored 70 goals in the OHL last year. Predicted by some "experts" as a top Calder candidate. Patrick O'Sullivan. #8 5'11" 190lbs. Now that his dad is safely stowed away in Canada, all is well. Signed for table scraps, he's had a solid preseason and could figure into a top 6 role. Zac Dalpe. #22 6'1" 195lbs. Dude's a goal scorer. Put up 45 points in 39 games at Ohio State, then 5 more points in his first 8 AHL games. Anton Babchuk. #33 6'5" 212lbs. Babchuk want return a canes. JR made it so. Time to set up us the bomb.Bobby Sanguinetti. #24 6'3" 190lbs. Acquired from the Rags on draft day, he's an offensive defenseman who will either get pushed to the press box or the AHL by perennial suckfest, Jay Harrison. Notable LossesRod Brind'Amour has carried on the tradition of players taking new gigs in the organEYEzation as he's now the director of forwards development. Ray Whitney. Sorry, puck bunnies, time to find someone new to go apeshit for. Thanks for not waving your NTC last year. 10/7/2010 10:01:19 AM
wooooooooooooo, pumped a shit for this season. Heres to hoping we get off to a good start this year and dont dig ourselves an early season hole that we spend all season digging ourselves out of. I really like the mix of old and new players we have, hopefully Sutter will take the next step forward and become one of our top contributors this season.anyone have any news on Samsonov? I know he's on IR, but I'm not sure how the IR system works in the NHL. Is it like the NFL where you are out for the whole season, or is it like a more extensive version of the disabled list where he can come back once he's healthy?
10/7/2010 10:22:48 AM
^the latter. and it can be done retroactively.
10/7/2010 10:23:31 AM
so is he looking to come back in 15 games? 30? 60? I know his injury looked bad initially, I just havent heard anything at all about his timeline for a return. Everyone just keeps saying that he isnt travelling with the team to Europe, but thats italsoProjected first line: LW Jussi Jokinen, C Eric Staal, RW Tuomo RuutuProjected second line: LW Erik Cole, C Brandon Sutter, RW Chad LaRoseProjected third line: LW Sergei Samsonov, C Patrick O’Sullivan, RW Patrick DwyerProjected fourth line: LW Zach Boychuk, C Jeff Skinner, RW Tom Kostopoulosper: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=ArK9jTJccOz3a2Y4k1pT.HNivLYF?slug=teamreports-2010-nhl-carI really hope Boychuk, Skinner and O'Sullivan play well this year. They are all capable of being solid players and possible future stars, they just have to gorw up fast and be consistent night in and night out (I'm looking at you Boychuk)[Edited on October 7, 2010 at 10:32 AM. Reason : asdf]
10/7/2010 10:31:32 AM
Those lines look close, but didn't Boychuk get sent down to Charlotte? In any case, he'll be back this season (I hope). I sure hope they put Jussi back on a line with Staal instead of making him 3rd line center. Sully looked good in the preseason so he should be cool at 3rd line.I just want us to get back to the RBC with at least a .500 record. This first road trip is going to be important.
10/7/2010 10:35:34 AM
Boychuk has already been shipped off to Charlotte, so that lineup is crap. Here's a more realistic look: http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/depthchart.htm?dcid=12Personally, I think the lines are garbage. The only positive I can find in it is that we must be rolling 4 "scoring" (used very loosely) lines instead of having a true 4th line. And Harrison on defense instead of Carson, Sanguinetti, an 8 year old, a parking cone, etc is always a horrible choice. That Babchuk/Harrison pair will be on the ice for a couple of Wild goals today, more than likely.]
10/7/2010 10:36:10 AM
I dunno if espn is way off or what, but the Hurricanes website has much different lines listed:Offense:Line 1: LW Chad LaRose C Eric Staal RW Erik ColeLine 2: LW Jeff Skinner C Jussi Jokinen RW Tuomo RuutuLine 3: LW Drayson Bowman C Brandon Sutter RW Patrick DwyerLine 4: LW Pat O'Sullivan C Zac Dalpe RW Tom KostopoulosJiri Tlusty and Sergie Samsonov reservesDefense:LD Joni Pitkanen RD Joe CorvoLD Tim Gleason RD Jamie McBainLD Jay Harrison RD Anton BabchukLD Brett Carson RD Bobby SanguinettiGoalkeepers: Cam Ward Jason PetersZack Boychuk isnt listed on the Hurricanes roster according to the website
10/7/2010 10:40:46 AM
Carson, Sanguinetti, and Tlusty are healthy scratches for today. I personally am looking for the 53/36/15 line to do damage today.
10/7/2010 10:43:12 AM
IT'S JAY HARRISON TIME.Those lines are kind of shit but who knows what could happen. Bowman/Sutter/Dwyer is clearly designed to be a shut down checking line. And now I'm off the Internet until I watch the game on the DVR at 4:30.
10/7/2010 10:47:54 AM
come on, we all know the lines will be completely different in five games anyhow.
10/7/2010 11:05:12 AM
