IOP 1

I see this game looking alot like the UNC-CH/GT game but we still have the edge i think on offense. I also think Tenuta will have a better plan than what UNC-CH did. Seeing Godfrey (of UCF) and Collaros of Cincy will help us I think. They are more mobile than Nesbitt, its just there are plays designed so that Nesbitt is just another Running back which of course makes it tougher a little. However, PJ is not going to throw it alot, at least if we can't stop the rush outright, so i think initially this will play into our strengths: our DL and LB's. This will allow the secondary to cheat a little more in run support. However, if GT has to throw, i like that our DL and blitzing packages can probably keep sufficient pressure, contain and allow Nate to spy Nesbitt. Carter and Sturdivant did that really well, they just missed tackles, uncharacteristically.

If we can stop tech, i see RW having no trouble torching their defense, actually i see us putting up points under any scenario, just that it will be the difference between winning big and squeaking one out.

So realistically, i think we win another

30-ish game for us
20-ish game for the bad guys

forgot to add, i also think Mustafa is going to have a big game. This would also be a game I could see someone like James Washington doing really well in due to his speed.

I'm not sure our defense is legit. We just haven't faced teams with QBs smart enough to punish our blitzes.

I would like to see us get out in front and force them to catch up

I think that's supposedly why we've been effective. So the 3 LB's all step up to the line. But any number of scenarios happen, maybe none of them blitz, they all drop back and a corner comes from the edge and a saftey comes up the middle. And any number of permutations. Manning talked about in the post-game how Collaros truly didn't know where the blitzes were coming from (he was confused). So on that front, i think we'll be fine. It's the secondary and not playing a coverage right (ala the bombs from the cincy game) that worry me still and I think will get corrected over the course of the season.

I also want to get out to a lead and make them play catch up. I would actually also like to see us beat them at their own game of ball control and we can do it. Wear their defense out so it opens up later.

I know it's early, and we haven't played a truly significant opponent yet, but I like this team. I think it's just taken longer for the team to buy into O'Brien's system than we all thought, and we're now seeing some of the benefits. I don't know why, but I have a feeling that George and Jarvis will have a big game.

damn you, optimism... damn you.

Why does the coaches poll hate us so much?

Mizzou
oklahoma state
michigan state
west virginia

Why are these teams ranked? Most of them have squeeked by shitty teams like FAU marshall and san diego state.

nevada
florida state
georgia tech
nw
fresno
bc
houston

none of those teams should be getting more votes than us

Excited for this game. It should be a close one. I'll be interested to see how our defense looks against GT's option offense. IIRC, this our first game vs them since they implemented the option. So we'll see how it goes.

GO PACK!!!!

This is a tough game to predict IMO. Should be close. Our O looked good vs Cincy and GT's D is suspect. But, GT's offense is tough stop so that'll be an interesting matchup.
My heart says: Pack 34 GT 28
I don't want to get my hopes up for a W though. This will be a tough game.

This game should be a real test of our team. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose by a large margin. ACC's been down for many years and we were in the bottom of the shitty conference, I don't know where the optimism come from.

Go pack!

just so you people know, I'm 100% behind the pack for this game. my PJ "homerism" doesn't override my NC State "homerism"

I think the offense will move vs. GT's defense. But I have about zero faith in Archer/Tenuta to stop GT. could be a shootout.

^^I'm cautiously optimistic, but I agree that this game is definitely a test for us. The ACC blows, but we've played well so far this year, and GT's D isn't all that great...we should be able to score on them. Stopping them will be tough though. Even if our D has looked good this year, we haven't faced this type of offense under TOB (at least not that I can remember) so it will be interesting to see how we react to it. If we can't stop them, then it will be a shootout.

With GT's option offense, you have to play nearly perfect assignment defense. We need to keep their O off the field and keep our D fresh. I say whoever wins Time of Possession wins the game.

I'm heading to the game... tickets and hotel was cheap enough, plus I have Friday off, so why not? The State fan in me still has reservations about paying more than $40 to watch the team though.
