Before I go to the bank and look like an ass or a criminal, I wanted to see if TWW knows anything abut this.My 90 year old grandmother sent me what she thought was a check, but it is not a check. It is a savings withdrawal slip. She has filled it out as one would fill out a withdrawal slip with her signature, but managed to squeeze my name next to the numerical amount as one would on a check. Can I do anything with this? I'm fairly certain that I cannot take this to my bank and deposit it like a normal check, but could I go to her bank and just make the withdrawal?

No. I'm sure you already knew this though.

can you not call her and ask her to cut you a real check?

I can. I'm actually going out of town this weekend specifically to visit her. That's one of the reasons that she mailed me a check -- she wanted me to have "a little something extra" for gas and such. I just didn't want to bother her with it because it's going to upset her to have made this mistake. She's 90 and her eyesight is going, but she's fiercely independent and I think that this would fluster her.

The bank? It burned. It's gone! Now what you wanna do is go down to forty-ninth street, that's the main customer service branch. Ask for Mr. Fleming. He'll help you.

If it's less than $250 just throw it in the trash and thank her for it when you see her.[Edited on September 9, 2010 at 11:47 AM. Reason : s]

When you see her, tell her you lost it. You get the money, she doesn't feel bad.

tell her your son got a hold of it and tore it up.

You can deposit into someone else's account, but you cannot withdraw from someone else's account.

you just need to locate a bank that cashes savings withdrawal slips. Try google for a location in raleigh
