to a Congress near you.

He cosponsored H.J. Res 47 to ban flag burning, voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, he cosponsored efforts on allowing roving warrant-less wiretapping of Americans, voted against the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act, voted against shareholder approval of corporate political ads, wants less oil drilling regulation, voted against repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, is anti-choice, and is pro-teaching intelligent design.

Here is a gem on his scare tactics:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/30/gop.ad/index.html
"House Minority Leader Boehner releases Web ad attacking Obama on security"

An image of the Pentagon on fire during the 9/11 attacks is used in a new GOP Web video attacking the president.

Before anyone asks, I did check for older threads first, even the latest one with his name was too old to bump:
"Boehner knew Foley was a Pedophile months ago"

In 2004, he allowed Sallie Mae to throw him a fundraiser while the student lending outfit was lobbying his committee. And he is a frequent flier on trips paid for by special interests."

I fully expect him to begin impeachment proceedings on false charges of raping a white woman, probably Mrs. Boehner, who would gladly play along with the charade.

No, i think the election is going to suprise many people, polls are already tightening and we still got 52 days, I saw one that 2 weeks ago had the GOP 10 points ahead, now it is tied. Of course the Dems will loose seats, but not enough this time around to loose the majority, maybe have 10-15 seat majority in the House and 5 or 6 in the Senate. Even if they do somehow get the majority, it will be by a handful of votes and the Dems will just do like the GOP did....and then blame the GOP as the "do nothing" party for the next two years....actually, it might be better for Obama for the House to go GOP so he can blame them for the next 2 years on why nothing is being done.

this is entirely possible. Both parties are almost universally loathed by their opponents, by their old base and by the middle. The most emphatic argument I've heard for a Republican this cycle has been little more than a case against Democrats and warning against the perils of splitting votes with a third party.

At the moment, the general opinion towards the civlilian leadership in this nation is scraping noisily along the bottom of the barrel. The only government entity with any public backing is the military, which is something to think about . . .

That being said, this is a mid-term and polls count for far less than energy. Like it or not, ALL the energy in this election is on the right.

I'm afraid that my bias may be clouding my view of him.

Can any conservatives confirm that this guy acts like a grade-A douche?

There is a simple one step process for answering that question:

1) Is he a Politician?

If the answer is yes, then he is, in fact, a grade-a douche. If the answer is no, he may still be but further examination is required to determine douce or non-douche status.

[Edited on September 9, 2010 at 5:14 PM. Reason : ok, that may be hyperbole, but it generally applies to any politician in a leadership position]

The real problem we have is Congress, and the "let's get something passed, whatever it may be" mentality. Then we get a "bill" that is actually a thousand laws rolled into one. Most representatives that vote for the bill may not agree every individual law or statute, but as long as they get their "bacon" (i.e. something to crow about when re-election comes around), that's all that matters. This is just a terrible, shameful way of legislating.

The issue has never been that Congress can't pass enough legislation. They pass too much legislation, most of which goes unnoticed, precisely because of the omnibus legislation that I just mentioned. When we look at the debacles of the past decade, it was not because a President was out of line, it was because Congress was derelict in its duties and handed the Executive branch more power than it was intended to have.

While he's not my first choice, I'll take Boehner over Pelosi any day of the week.

Boehner's deep-fried perma-tan creeps me out a bit. For Future Speaker, I'm going with a fellow Wisconsin guy..Paul Ryan. Good solid conservative, with a good "I work too much" pasty look to him.

Yeah, that guy wouldn't be as bad as Boehner, but that applies to almost everyone in congress. The difference they wont be Speaker this after this election, Boehner might be.

^^^ I judge people not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

But I agree. I, too, would prefer Ryan. But Obama has already made Boehner out to be the new conservative bogeyman.

Good night, sweet prince.

^ Actually, that's not the case at all. Obama singling out Boehner in speeches and Democrats specifically targeting Boehner in attacks ads are recent developments.

Less than a week left until his ascension becomes locked into place.

I hope you're right, but the math seems nearly impossible now for the GOP not taking the House.

The magic number for a majority is 218.

NYT gives Solid/Lean Dem 191, Solid/Lean GOP 202, and 42 toss ups
NBC gives Solid/Lean Dem 202, Solid/Lean GOP 188, and 45 toss ups (Dems rely heavily on leans, GOP is solids)
538 projects the Dem 203.1, projects the GOP 231.9 (although 1 race is listed as a complete toss up)

I think it'll be a little closer to even than 538 is projecting, but that Boehner will be speaker.

Although there is still once chance, even if the GOP wins, that they don't pick him to represent them... but that might be more unlikely than the GOP not winning the house.

'94 repeat except for the Senate remains Dem....so the House can pass everything it wants...it will be dead on arrival in the Senate. Boehner has already said he is not going to compromise, so I guess the House can be renamed 'The Radical Right"....

Repubs will have some control over the senate. There will be a lot of scared Dems after tonight, esp seeing once blue states go all red. Ohio was a surprise to me. The trend of running away from O will probably continue, unless O can run towards the center. No doubt he will say that is what he will do, but Ill believe it when I see it.

thank God Obama already passed a lot of what he was trying to do before the election. The biggest thing I can think of that didn't get passed was DADT which was wildly popular with the people so if the republicans block that they'll look like huge douchenozzles (exactly what the Democrats wanted to happen). Sorry gays for being politicized like that, but it is what it is.

But the Repubs won't be able to repeal anything without the Senate and they're not going to propose anything new so everyone better get ready for the biggest lame duck Congress in the history of the country.

Boehner said in his speech it is time Washington work for the people instead of itself. I guess it took his entire 19 years in office there to figure that out. Where was he before on this? The fact is he is full of crap just like the rest and there won't be as much change as people think. In 2012 we will do it all over again.

I've been thinking about this as well and I have come to a similar conclusion. I think he is either going to eliminate it now in a lame duck session, especially given the favorable returns from military families, or wait until after January and then challenge the Repubs to vote against it. Calculated and political but it may be brilliant if executed correctly.

What makes you think this administration would execute something correctly?

Anyway, I'm just not looking forward to the renewed enthusiasm for Boehner/Boner jokes that will happen in the next two years (minimum). They stopped being funny years ago.

Yeah, they haven’t really done anything politically clever so far, even though there have been many opportunities. Maybe now that Rahm is gone, they might could reevaluate?
