I asked him to move faster several times and he said "Not for minimum wage I'm not"He also txt messaged me later saying "I'm not going to clean up after the mess you make" in response to me telling him to clean off the make-line when he was leaning on the counter watching TV.Seriously. Why even apply in the first place?
9/3/2010 11:07:51 PM
so you're hiring?
9/3/2010 11:10:11 PM
should have shot him in the leg and asjked him if that wiould get him moving
9/3/2010 11:11:10 PM
Good for you. Next time you have a surly employee let me know and I will come demean them while they are working by mocking the fact that they have to make sandwiches for me. I assume you work at a Subway type place, so if that's not the case then I apologize. My offer to demean your employees still stands though.
9/3/2010 11:12:10 PM
hire a hispanic
9/3/2010 11:13:14 PM
they smell. only good for outdoor jobs
9/3/2010 11:21:18 PM
If you can't make ends meet working, then why work at all?
9/3/2010 11:25:01 PM
As long as you are not an asshole about it, you are in the right. One of my managers at my second job (the one that pays me less than half of what I make at my real job) is a condescending douche, and no fucking way I will continue to bust my ass for him for as little as he pays me if he keeps treating me like shit.
9/3/2010 11:40:10 PM
This thread pisses me off.
9/3/2010 11:42:07 PM
wait, where do you work again?
9/3/2010 11:51:08 PM
the OP owns All Around Pizza
9/4/2010 1:01:30 AM
Lol, he came in to pick up his final check today, one day after he worked.I told him he has to submit his SS card and Drivers License in order for me to pay him for the first time. I've repeatedly asked for the card while he was training.
9/4/2010 4:58:11 PM
Try having to fire someone twice your age. I will have to do that for the second time soon. Dude is driving me bonkers.
9/4/2010 5:19:25 PM
Its a great time to upgrade your staff. Too many people willing to work to have to put up with one that isnt.
9/4/2010 5:30:27 PM
don't bring that "might as well quit and make unemployment" myth up again.
9/4/2010 5:35:18 PM

9/5/2010 11:46:04 PM
this is the original and best
9/5/2010 11:56:34 PM
^ in answer to that question, probably because it doesn't sink in how little they're earning for their hours of drudgery until they get that first paycheckat which point they probably lose 90% of whatever respect they had for the jobI know it's simple arithmetic (minimum wage*hrs worked - taxes = paycheck)but not everybody is good at arithmetic]
9/6/2010 1:51:20 AM
maybe we should have a thread where you keep all of your store talk in one place
9/6/2010 5:08:46 AM
what is minimum wage these days?
9/6/2010 6:36:08 AM
its $7.25 in North Carolinathis shows all the states minimum wage requirements, pretty interesting. I didnt know that Louisiana and Mississippi didnt have any minimum wage law at all. while DC, Connecticut and maybe a couple others are $8.25.[Edited on September 6, 2010 at 9:46 AM. Reason : adsf]
9/6/2010 9:42:49 AM
you sound like youre bragging about it. which is weird to every normal person on here who has done it before because it is not enjoyable, regardless of reasoning. what you're really saying here is that you are able to fire minimum wage employess for not making sandwiches fast enough and we should respect your authority...right?
9/6/2010 10:28:40 AM
what is all around pizza?
9/6/2010 4:42:01 PM
^very bad pizza!
9/6/2010 4:51:28 PM
^^^^ States that don't have a separate law with a minimum wage fall under the Federal Minimum wage, which is $7.25/hr.

You sound bitter. Why the hell do you put so much work into this place if you're making less than minimum wage?
9/6/2010 5:48:24 PM
so you re-invited the pizza, right?
9/6/2010 5:49:33 PM
not to mention that a severely mentally handicapped person could do the job so by not doing the job, he's shown himself to be less valuable to the company than a severely mentally handicapped personmost people pull shit like this when they think that the work is below them when the opposite is usually true

lol you guys clearly have never started a business or know somebody who haslittle hint: occasionally, there's this small period where you are what's called "in the red" where you're not really making any profit but you're paying off the upstart costs as fast as you can while still incurring regular and new costshence why he's been open for a couple years and making less than minimum wage, i think he said it would take him 5-7 (correct me if im wrong, GxB) to get into the black or start making his money but once he does it's all his and nobody else's and how many of us can say that?
9/6/2010 6:08:20 PM
id rather work for The Man than work in a pizza shop my entire life
9/6/2010 6:26:45 PM
9/6/2010 6:27:24 PM
can i just say though that this isnt the first time you've had employees who are slow. there's something else unsaid that's gotta be going on because not only was the service very slow the one time we went but you didn't really seem to care either. maybe it's because you knew we were only there from out of town but the best surviving businesses often do so because of repeat business and I'm not sure how you hold onto the customers you do get with all your worker troublesit's possible you're not preparing your workers for what they may consider "extraneous" parts to the job, like cleaning up or working faster when it's clearly busy and that is just as much your fault as theirsjust to err on the side of caution for the next worker you get you should make the job sounds as hard as reasonably possible and let them know that it's a shitty minimum wage job to boot, if they enjoy it then that's seen as a benefit to them and not a right but they'll know they're expected to pick the pace up and keep it up as they get onjust my two cents, i do hope you all the best always have

9/6/2010 7:04:50 PM
Im not going to read everything past where I put that this thread pisses me off, but I get the impression that you still have a lot of skills to develop when it comes to managing people effectively. You should think about the performance of your team as being a direct reflection of your performance as a manager. They deserve to own thier successes, and you need to own thier failures.
9/6/2010 7:09:33 PM
That amount of counterexamples that exist are insignificant and can be dropped off the value of the number. Remember, the range we're talking about is {all successful business owners, not(failed business owners), not (successful once but currently failed business owners)}I can't be wrong. It's the definition of successful.
