too bad his next film is about that climber who got his arm stuck under a boulder then had to chop it offthat should be a fun 2 hours
8/10/2010 10:47:02 PM
how in the hell is he underappreciated????
8/10/2010 10:47:31 PM
i can't see how someone could be considered under-appreciated after winning an oscar.
8/10/2010 10:48:44 PM
his name is not well known to the average movie goer, just ask someone if they know who danny boyle is
8/10/2010 10:49:47 PM
stop making threads
8/10/2010 11:25:07 PM
sunshine was not goodslumdog was nowhere near as good as the hype; but was decentloved 28 days laterthe beach was meh; id say badnot seen trainspotting.1.5/4

i enjoyed sunshine. the crazy captain from the 1st mission was a little odd, but i thought he added a nice element of suspense to the movie.
8/10/2010 11:35:19 PM
i liked sunshine for the first half of the moviebut i thought it fell apart in a very bad way towards the end
8/10/2010 11:36:40 PM
sunshine is great, slumdog is exploitative trash.
8/10/2010 11:46:23 PM
yeah, sunshine is the bomb
8/10/2010 11:55:38 PM
8/11/2010 12:57:15 AM
i found sunshine interminable. i think i fell asleep once or twice, then gave up on it.

maybe the first worthwhile lafta post of all timeexcept he forgot to point out that kelly mcdonald is hot

i totally expected lafta to drop m. night shyamalan in this thread.
8/11/2010 7:26:27 AM
haham night is much like Sunshine. Early on there is some awesome stuff; then towards the end you're like what the fuck is this shit i'm watching and why am I watching it?
8/11/2010 9:13:40 AM
I like M. Night Shyamalanhis pictures aren't perfectbut I think the extent of the hate he receives is a little bit of herd mentality in action
8/11/2010 11:00:43 AM
subshine is the definition of "meh". Although the overabuse of annoying noise and blurred visuals makes it trend downward later in the movie.
8/11/2010 11:03:00 AM
It's almost like lafta just started watching movies like a year ago, totally ignorant to their existence prior to said time.
8/11/2010 11:04:16 AM
and how do you figure that?
8/11/2010 11:17:45 AM
getting back to the thread topic: Michael Bay
8/11/2010 11:21:17 AM
Because a thread about Danny Boyle being under appreciated might have been relevant in 1995, before Trainspotting was released, or maybe even in 2007 before Slumdog came out but now it just makes you look like a rube.
8/11/2010 11:26:30 AM
^^lol
8/11/2010 11:38:47 AM
^^wrong fool, i said underappreciated but im saying he's not a household name which is true, considering he's made a number of good movies, his movies should be marketable by saying "directed by danny boyle"but thats not the caseso yeah he won an oscar but so do many people who are forgotten the instant they walk off the stage

Yeah most people only know Favreau, Bay and McG, then the rest all kind of blend together
8/11/2010 1:26:21 PM
I'm gonna add a serious submission:Rian Johnson, who directed Brick and The Brothers Bloom and has a hard sci-fi film coming out in 2011 called Looper.[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 1:35 PM. Reason : .]
8/11/2010 1:32:09 PM
^^hahhaa
8/11/2010 2:13:34 PM
the brothers bloom is fun but way too longbrick is pretty perfect, thoughalso, the interesting thing brought up in this thread is which directors are household namesspielberg, scorsese, cameron, tarantino, coppola, stone, howard, lucas?i'm not sure whether to count someone like eastwood because he's a celebrity apart from being a director
8/11/2010 2:15:08 PM
^ i would lean toward including Eastwood. He's had quite a few big movies since he was only known as an actor. And I think A LOT of people are aware of the fact the directed said movies. If not, then I'd say he definitely falls into lafta's group of people who should be better known as directors.^^^ i'd disagree if we're going with lafta's original intention of directors that should have more marketable names.A LOT of people have seen Danny Boyle's movies and liked them. They just don't realize they're Danny Boyle's movies."From the director of 'Slumdog Millionaire', 'Trainspotting', 'The Beach', and '28 Days Later'" -- is going to get people's attention. Slumdog alone will. People realizing the same guy was behind all of those could entice them to see a movie marketed that way.the average movie goer simply hasn't seen Brick or The Brothers Bloom. I saw both when they came out and enjoyed both quite a bit. But most people just don't know of them to appreciate, over appreciate, or under appreciate them/the director. So, Rian Johnson is by no means a marketable name imo. Not among the general populace anyhow."From the director of 'Brick' and 'The Brothers Bloom'" is going to get a "uhh, never saw 'em" from the average person.[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 2:22 PM. 8/11/2010 3:52:07 PM
fuck a michael bay hater
8/11/2010 3:56:33 PM
first off my intention for this thread was not whether or not movie buffs know who Danny Boyle is, thats ridiculous, as i have stated repeatedly, i meant appreciation from the general movie going publicsecondly
8/11/2010 4:29:49 PM
Side note...I always thought danny boyle looked like morrissey in a strange way[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 4:45 PM. Reason : .]
