Book of Eli sucked ass
8/8/2010 7:30:50 PM

8/8/2010 8:17:41 PM
the matrix rules. the sequels are garbage.
8/8/2010 8:28:31 PM
i like how the thread starts by saying how bad the movies were overall, but doesn't list any movies under "Bad"
8/8/2010 8:34:11 PM
The Matrix is a mediocre sci-fi flick. To put it in a sentence with The Godfather and Casablanca is a travesty.
8/8/2010 8:38:12 PM
I did a double-take on Matrix inclusion. Come on!
8/8/2010 9:24:52 PM
The first Matrix is not one of the all-time greats, but don't kid yourself, it was an extremely influential movie. And fwiw, it's only August.[Edited on August 8, 2010 at 9:51 PM. Reason : f]

so 6 pictures in one century were classics. one decade into this one and there is already no hope for the movie industry.let's get out the jump to conclusions mat.
8/8/2010 10:08:08 PM
^you're right, he should have listed every single classic from the 20th centruy
8/8/2010 10:31:13 PM
if citizen kane is considered a great movie, so must the matrix. kane was great because of the stuff it brought to the industry. but the movie itself is mediocre at best[Edited on August 8, 2010 at 10:56 PM. Reason : ,]

Maybe so. I've been to the theater about 5 times in the last 7 or 8 years, and I was drug to Star Wars Ep 3 against my will - wouldn't have bothered otherwise. I haven't really bought any DVDs to speak of in the last few years and of the DVDs I did buy were for TV shows.I guess most of what's coming out just doesn't appeal to me. There are a few movies that I wouldn't mind seeing, but certainly not for the price they charge at theaters. By the time a movie hits the $1.50 movies I usually forget about it, nothing memorable out there.
8/9/2010 8:39:50 AM
There have actually been a number of memorable movies out in the past 8 years. Just because you can't get yourself interested doesn't mean they don't exist.
8/9/2010 9:15:27 AM
I don't doubt it. I 'm still unlikely to change my theater going habits though. These days it seems like the industry is relying on 3D as a draw. I'd be more inclined to come back if they would lower the ticket price.[Edited on August 9, 2010 at 9:42 AM. Reason : -]
8/9/2010 9:40:49 AM
That list is garbage...complete garbage. At the very least it should include Kick-Ass among the greats.Remove Splice, MacGruber, and Prince of Persia. These movies are shit...
8/9/2010 10:03:08 AM
yeah. we really need to get back to the golden days of movies. when every movie released was a hit. Remember the 80s? Short Circuit, Short Circuit two, All of the crockodile dundee sequels, all those john hughes films, and on and on and on and on.
8/9/2010 10:05:24 AM
Add "Get Him to the Greek" to the "Great" movies. That shit was hilarious.
8/9/2010 12:18:56 PM
i thought Splice was absolute DOO-DOO. I wouldn't put it anywhere near the "Good" category
8/9/2010 12:21:24 PM
Crocodilo donde
8/9/2010 12:26:03 PM
Exit Through The Gift Shop.
8/9/2010 3:32:40 PM
why do you people still fall into lafta's obvious traps.
8/9/2010 3:39:29 PM
8/9/2010 3:56:43 PM
i wouldn't even call this the worst year of the past decade let alone ever. however, the only movies i've gone to see this year were Inception, how to train your dragon, ts3, Alice in Wonderland, and Despicable Me. I loved the first 3, was ok with the last 2.
8/9/2010 11:02:52 PM
read the article, the author is an idiot.
8/9/2010 11:10:13 PM
also Get Low and Winter's Bone and Cyrus.
8/10/2010 7:43:28 AM
8/10/2010 11:42:31 AM
personally, I thought Alice in Wonderland was a pretty good movie, I went in thinking it was gonna be another shitty remake similar to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but I was pleasantly surprised

alice in wonderland is the worst movie i've seen in years
8/12/2010 11:12:26 AM
no way man, there have been a lot worse movies than that one
8/12/2010 11:13:32 AM
For anyone who thinks what that wacky old lafta thinks about this year in movies, see Winter's Bone. That shit is amazing. Also,
8/12/2010 1:44:47 PM
ITT dillydaliant agrees with bweez.
8/12/2010 2:09:05 PM
Because Winter's Bone rules so hard...After watching that, the next day I checked out a book from the library about crystal meth in small-town America. Somehow, I missed when that became such a big deal and had no idea about it being so popular in small towns in the midwest and mountain towns.
8/12/2010 3:02:08 PM
i only saw inception and the last airbender which i surprisingly liked. I didnt see it in 3d though...
8/12/2010 3:47:13 PM
^ good. they did that shitty post production upscale to it. People should not pay money for that shit.
8/12/2010 3:52:13 PM
8/12/2010 4:06:26 PM
jurassic park is great. i can't believe how well the CGI holds up. better than most today.
8/12/2010 4:16:16 PM
alot of it was cgi on top of animitronics iirc.
8/12/2010 4:20:23 PM
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Jurassic Park, but it seemed a bit odd placed alongside those other movies (Matrix aside).
8/12/2010 4:23:01 PM
^agreed, its hard to talk about all time greats when someone throws in Jurassic park
8/12/2010 9:53:26 PM
8/12/2010 10:09:47 PM
The author of that article is a 60-year-old guy that misses his youth.I really liked Shutter Island, thought Inception and Iron Man 2 were pretty good, Alice in Wonderland sucked.Citizen Kane and The Matrix are awesome.Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics.
8/12/2010 11:05:17 PM
To the people that actually read the article: The article is actually great writing and I enjoyed it for its entertainment, but I'm not sure I agreed with several of the points the author made. Basically the author seems to infer that a mountain of shit with a handful of diamonds is somehow worse than a heap of shit with just a few specks of diamonds. I do not agree that having a year with a lot of bad movies necessarily makes the good cinema that occurs during that year somehow less important to the industry as a whole. I'd argue that there's nothing about 2010 that's any different from any other year other than that maybe there was a larger amount of bad movies produced than recent years, but that has less to do with the quality of cinema and more to do with the expansion of the entertainment industry. But that's not what the author says. He makes the whole thing quantitative, and why would you do that when arguing the value of a year to cinema?--not to the box office, not to movie rentals, but to cinema as cultural art. It simply doesn't make any sense to me. I'm sure there were a lot of really shitty movies that came out the same year as The Godfather or Citizen Kane--but that doesn't diminish how amazing those films were. Ultimately what we remember and what we valuable is the amount of good and reputable product that is seen, not how deep we had to dig through the shit to finally get to it.EDIT: And look at the end of the article, how it's followed by an insert from an editor that completely undermines the entire concept of the article it's attached to. The added feature talks about movies that weren't considered very good at the time, but are now considered to be some of the best films ever.[Edited on August 13, 2010 at 1:35 AM. Reason : d]
8/13/2010 1:33:01 AM
I'm inclined to automatically disagree with anything which declares a year the "worst ever" in august of that year.
8/13/2010 4:33:59 AM
Jurassic Park is amazing. Its a fantastic blend of animitronics and CG. The CG portions are just as good as anything released today.I consider it a milestone movie.
8/13/2010 9:13:09 AM
^agreed
8/13/2010 9:44:59 AM
I'm honestly flabbergasted as to why half of you even choose to attend movies at all
