are there any satellite and cable providers that will allow you to choose what area you want to get your local channels from? lets say i lived in nc and wanted miami local channels? seems like it would be easy to do tech wise but does any provider do it?

so it sounds like they can and will do it but federal law limits it in most situations.

the best you can hope for is that your local station of choice also streams out over the internets

Back in the day when you could hack the satellite cards you could change your zipcode and get other cities local channels.

last I heard, local channels were decided by the zip code on your account that tells your box what channels to receive.or you know, just use the fucking internet

Go with a satellite provider and have someone living in that area let you use their address.

what's so great about Miami's local channels? Other than if you want tons of stuff in spanish...I'll trade you - you send me the local Raleigh ones and I'll send you the crap from down here

Its really only an issue for sports and local events.[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 8:57 PM. Reason : getting big10 big12 games every week on abc is no fun.]
