Just curious. Company wants to send me there on business in August and I'm a little concerned about the State Department's travel warnings. Gonna call the consulate there at 2PM today, but just in case anyone has done business there recently wanted to see if there was any input.

I don't know about that area specifically, but I would pretty much refuse to go to Mexico for business under any circumstances.

I've never been to Puerto Rico before myself, but I know a guy who went down on a year-long field assignment to a project we had there and he liked it so much that, at the end of the job, he asked for a transfer to our satellite office there. Different strokes I suppose.

Yeah my dad loves when they send him to Puerto Rico for business. They stopped sending him to Mexico when their liability department started requiring kidnapping insurance for all business trips made to Mexico

Yeah, I'm *heavily* leaning toward no. But I'm gonna give the consulate a call and talk to someone on the ground there.

i lived in monterrey for 2 years...planning on going back and visiting here pretty soon...and i spent 6 weeks this summer in southern mexico. i know quite a bit about this.i wouldnt be too concerned about the travel warnings. almost all of the violence there is between drug cartels, not much going on with americans. If you are in a drug cartel, its violent. But other than that, especially for americans, i wouldnt worry about it at all. Like with any travel, you just have to be smart and dont do anything dumb. While i lived in Monterrey, I met alot of american families living there in San Pedro, most of which work for the state dept.if you have any more questions just pm me, i can pretty much answer most questions about the city.
