2001 Honda RVT1000R - RC51
I went to change my oil and the drain plug is pretty rounded. So far I've tried a flare nut wrench, vice grips, damaged bolt sockets, gator grip, and a metric fuckton of wd40. All of these have succeeded in making the problem worse. I own a set of extractors but would like to keep them as a last resort. Anyone have any bright ideas?

Depending on how big the head on the plug is, maybe you could try using a dremel and cutting a slot into it. Then you could use an impact gun/driver with a large flathead bit to turn it out. I've used this trick before, but not on a bolt fastened to such a high torque.

I basically did that. a cutoff wheel in a drill. finally got it out. no idea how the head got so mushy. hopefully the dealership will have a new one in the morning.

Yeah I've got flat chisels with a hex shank. If all else fails i cut a deep notch, then put a wrench on it and heat the shit of the aluminum around it. If the bolt is aluminium as well I'll take an air duster can upside down to freeze it.

well hot damn, autozone guy just let me go in the back and pillage their hardware boxes. found a M12-1.5 replacement. shaft is slightly longer but a couple washers and it should be all good.

Weld a small piece of pipe to the plug. Then weld a nut on top of that and turn the nut.

put something magnetic to the bolt. if it is attracted to the bolt then you can get a regular MIG wilder on it
