Old thread died.http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/universal/scottpilgrimvstheworld/New Michael Cera movie, but it looks better than his usual stuff. Same sort of pseudo-indie theme, though... this one even moreso, since it's based on an indie-music-obsessed comic book.Mission Valley is having an advance screening for it at 7PM on Wed, July 28. We've got about 15 or so completely free tickets left (Admit 2 per ticket) for it here at the Talley Student Center info desk, if anyone really cares to see it early.Personally, I'm not sure what to think of this movie. On the one hand, I don't really care about it at all, having never read the comic book. On the other hand, it looks like it could be pretty good or at least amusing. On the third hand, it looks like it might end up being a complete mess.[Edited on July 22, 2010 at 3:57 PM. Reason : .]

Jesus more Michael CeraI was hoping he'd never catch onHe'll look 17 when he's 40
7/22/2010 3:59:18 PM
He'd be a bit better if he ever played something besides an awkward high school kid.(...or maybe not. For all I know, that's the only role the guy can play half-decently.)[Edited on July 22, 2010 at 4:03 PM. Reason : .]

don't like it? don't see the fucking movie
7/22/2010 4:32:27 PM
he better be sporting pilgrimshoes

Wish I was still in Raleigh to catch the preview.I've read the first 2 Scott Pilgrim books. Pretty funny stuff, lots of videogame references.I'm okay with Cera always playing the same character. This time, instead of an awkward high school kid he's an awkward college grad that somehow is a hit with the ladies. Also he can fight. The real draw to this movie is Edgar Wright and his enthusiasm for it. They're really treating the source material well and I expect big things from the director of Shaun of the Dead (and Hot Fuzz and Spaced).

We also have tickets available at the concession stand at the campus cinema. Free showing of Alice and Wonderland (blu ray) tonight at 10.

it has Chris Evans and Jason Schwartzman and I will see it.

OH FUCK IT ALL, I won't be in Raleigh and can't see the advanced free screening or whatever.I have all six of the comics (last one came out on the 20th) that the movie is based on. It's pretty entertaining as far as psuedo-indie American comics goes. The movie could flop or be great. I subtract points for Michael Cera, but award them back for Edgar Wright. They're doing an interesting take with actually incorporating more video game elements into what is already a very heavily video game centered series (they're doing a lot of video-game audio and music, which makes sense but might be overkill).I'm generally excited about this though, bad or not.

I'm pleasantly surprised that this is at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.I never doubted that I personally would enjoy it, I was just expecting it to get snubbed by the critics.Excited for tonight.

Saw this last night at Brier Creek ad the crowd was loving it. Haven't been in a movie that got that big of a reaction in a long time.I personally loved it too.

As I get older it seems it is harder for movies to impress me, this one was great. I really enjoyed it, but the wives/gf might not enjoy this one unless they are a little geeky.
8/14/2010 8:29:38 AM
saw this last night because some friends wanted to... didn't really know anything about it. i _really_ enjoyed it
8/14/2010 11:44:04 AM
Perfect. It nails the "comic book movie" feel better than any other. It's a better video game movie than any other (depsite not being a video game. well, not at first). It's a great comedy for nerds and non-nerds alike. Everyone in the theater laughed a lot.If you're tired of Michael Cera playing the same character, this one is... very different. And similar. At the same time.A++ Can't wait to see how crazy awesome the DVD extras are.
8/14/2010 2:13:55 PM
between this and inception i think 2010 is the first time i've said "wow" outloud at a movie since Jurassic Park. very well done.
8/14/2010 7:10:40 PM
I have read the comics. Saw it today. Really great. The beginning is panel for panel almost. They fit a lot of the comic in the time, very well done and true to the source material.
8/14/2010 9:36:31 PM
Absolutely enjoyed it. Had me chuckling and smiling the whole time. It caters to a niche of people, and others may not be able to handle it. It's one thing if you don't catch some of the pop-culture references, it's another thing if the visual style makes you feel like you might have a seizure. It was definitely right up my alley though.
8/14/2010 9:55:04 PM
i liked it a lot
8/15/2010 12:14:25 AM
thought it kicked ass. i've never read any of the comics. how does the movie match up? is it the full story or are there more comics?
8/15/2010 1:03:42 AM
Book 2 of 6 is Versus the World which I'm skimming through now, will see hear all about from old roommate how it matches up.
8/15/2010 9:08:25 AM
good movie, liked the Flash Gordon and Kung Fu Hustle references.
8/15/2010 5:38:59 PM
Loved it & played the PS3 game a bit too, which is very River City Ransom-ish ... a plus!
8/15/2010 10:47:20 PM

Saw it...loved it...will see again

Michael Cera plays an awkward young man trying to score w/ a girl. Ex's on both sides get in the way. Michael finds self-confidence. Also, there's a band, concerts, and gushing over the former. If I didn't know this was a comic book, I'd say they took Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist and added a bunch of video-game references. Still, I enjoyed this movie immensely.
8/16/2010 9:21:40 AM
Best of the year so far, BY A LOT.
8/16/2010 6:50:28 PM
this wasn't better than inception

Holy cow, I just realized that Roxy Richter is played by Mae Whitman.aka Ann Veal from Arrested Development.which makes it even funnier when Scott Pilgrim is having trouble figuring out who Evil Ex #4 is.Her?
