I thought homeowners insurance is mandatory?
7/13/2010 6:07:17 PM
haha, I was confused by the title. That being said...1. Homeowner's insurance?2. Tell them to look at goodwilll, etc.[Edited on July 13, 2010 at 6:13 PM. Reason : ok, I won't be a dick... but...]

I figured they were homeowners because renters insurance is basically free. I think I pay $85 a year for $25k worth of coverage. There is no reason not to have renters insurance. Homeowners insurance can get a little pricey though. [Edited on July 13, 2010 at 6:19 PM. Reason : df]

I can't give out many details regarding the situation, but, STOP BEING A DICK
7/13/2010 6:26:28 PM
maybe it was arson

You should also try posting this in Classifieds so if someone is planning on getting rid of anything they can see it.

go to goodwillalso, no plasma TV? [Edited on July 13, 2010 at 10:24 PM. Reason : q]

It's too bad they don't live near me. I've been throwing away this sort of stuff for the past week

- Rental insurance is cheap. Still, I'd wager that most renters don't have it.- Home insurance policies are usually required by your lender to cover damage to the structure.- Even if you have an insurance policy, the payoff will likely neither be quick nor complete. Thus the need for short term help. Are you willing to pick items up twoozles?[Edited on July 13, 2010 at 10:35 PM. Reason : l]

I would recommend them checking out the Freecycle in their area. I'm sure they could get tons of stuff that way.
7/13/2010 11:09:11 PM
i have 2 lamps & shades, a 27" tv, and a coffee table they can have for freebeen trying to get that stuff out the wayPM me if they are still needed
7/13/2010 11:32:39 PM
I have a tv stand if they can pick it up from Durham,
7/13/2010 11:43:13 PM
I appreciate the suggestions of what I should tell them to do, but this is not one of those situations. I should be able to pick things up with my car and if not I will arrange to have someone from the church pick them up. I will e-mail today to find out what has already been donated since yesterday, and I will try to PM those of you who have items sometime this afternoon. Thanks
7/14/2010 10:55:23 AM
Is the red cross not helping them?
7/14/2010 10:59:16 AM
Those who express hate will express hate regardless.

Still waiting to hear back from the church. We've been playing phone tag every day it seems. Thanks to all those who have been helpful!

You should check with Fhqwhgads and thumper - they usually stock pile stuff like body wash and whatnot from the grocery store.
7/14/2010 10:19:45 PM
^ i just pmed her and told her to mention it in the grocery thread, i just put two bags of stock piled stuff together waiting for pick up
7/14/2010 10:31:19 PM
Thanks for all the help! I know they will really appreciate it. I am waiting to hear information about furniture because I think they may already have some of the bigger items donated, but toiletries and food items are a great need too! ^^^How dare the family's church head up these efforts?!?!
7/14/2010 11:23:30 PM
^^^^ are you retarded or do you just like being a bitch? you have decided that because there is a church involved in helping people (what most churches SHOULD be doing) that now you can't be bothered?are you afraid they'll accost you, tie you down, and cram jesus down your throat were you to drop off items? or did you never have anything of value to contribute in the first place?i'll assume the latter, given your contributions to the rest of tww
7/15/2010 8:19:09 AM
becareful...lewoods might try to sue you too
7/15/2010 8:40:04 AM
given her track record, i could probably show up to court in a gorilla suit and spit on the judge and i'd still win...that's if she could find a lawyer that she didn't piss off in some way before actually going to court
7/15/2010 9:31:04 AM
Does NC have practicing message board lawyers?
7/15/2010 9:37:43 AM
Of all the "victims" I have seen come to churches for help, they either caused their situation or were double dipping on insurance and donations. I just moved and have a bunch of stuff I need to get rid of, but I'll give it to a non-religious group that more carefully screens their clients.
7/15/2010 10:15:43 AM
You speak of a more thorough screening process as if you knew what you were talking about. Where the devil did you get the idea that charities -any charity- has a comprehensive and thorough screening process? [Edited on July 15, 2010 at 10:42 AM. Reason : sorry to derail the OP]

^ Truth. My parents are still fighting a homeowner's claim from 8 years ago
7/15/2010 7:09:02 PM
I've gotta say, the one homeowner's insurance claim I was involved in was great. Lighting struck the tree behind my house, insurance paid us $500 to have it removed within a week, we removed it ourselves and pocketed the money.
7/15/2010 8:32:39 PM
I have a bag duffle bag of stuff ready to go. It's all new, unopened. I live out near Knightdale but will be coming closer to NCSU multiple times this weekend. Call me or email me. I will pm you my info.
7/16/2010 10:36:17 AM
Thanks to those of you who gave me items. I assure you it was all greatly appreciated!
