7/13/2010 1:14:47 PM
He accepts responsibility when things go right, so as President... yeah nothing so far.
7/13/2010 1:15:56 PM

^ Like force an unpopular healthcare bill through Congress. I'm impressed
7/13/2010 3:12:11 PM
Pulling from an old post, this should be some nice fuel for the hate flames. On the federal level the president advocates for science in our schools, he supports stem cell research, the president ordered a return to the Army Field Manual rather than enhanced torture techniques, he supports repealing DADT this year (something opposed by his republican opponent), the president signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, he signed a bill to expand veteran benefits, he signed kids tobacco legislation, he signed a major land protection act, and we finally have a time-table (a word fiercely opposed by the last administration) for getting out of Iraq. I was also a fan of the recent presidential directive that results in allowing gay couples to have hospital visitation rights.[Edited on July 13, 2010 at 3:16 PM. Reason : .]
7/13/2010 3:15:22 PM
I voted for him, believing he would be the lesser of two evils. I don't regret it yet.
7/13/2010 3:15:25 PM
the bill was unpopular cause the right allowed morons like palin and glen beck to tell them what reform meant, and now that it is passed it has become more popularand im sure once the benefits are enacted it will be even more popularunlike the iraq war which was unpopular from the start and continued to be more unpopular[Edited on July 13, 2010 at 3:17 PM. 7/13/2010 3:16:50 PM
Yeah, there certainly was more GOP support for the RomneyCare individual mandate before all that went down:
7/13/2010 3:27:13 PM
The bill passed because it was rammed through Congress so fast that no one had a chance to read it... (Hmm.. I remember a presidential candidate promised to let everyone have a chance to read bills before they were passed). It also passed because of sweetheart deals.. (Hmm.. I remember a presidential candidate promised that it would not be politics as usual when he was President). So I guess the President we have now isn't the same as the aforementioned presidential candidate. But I guess this has already been covered in the Healthcare thread.
7/13/2010 3:28:21 PM
^Iraq wasn't nearly as unpopular from the start. It was sold as a shock-and-awe campaign to show 'em what our boys are made of, then it turned into a prolonged war. I'd almost wager that the shock-and-awe part wasn't all that unpopular. Granted this is all based on the basic opinion I saw in college (which was fairly liberal). I have no studies to back this up.

^^^once people learned the truth about what Iraq would be like, and that the Iraqis wouldn't be so easily shocked and awed and willing to get together to make a liberal democracy, the invasion wasn't so popular anymore

something about an amendment that had no effect but basically said "no, we really mean it...no federal money for abortions"
7/13/2010 3:55:24 PM
silly me, I was thinking about those backroom deals promising extra benefits for their state and jobs when they are voted out of office in November.
7/13/2010 4:05:08 PM
Something about a sweetheart deal for the unions so that they don't have to pay taxes on "Cadillac" insurance benefits. Or a sneaky accounting trick where they make the bill look deficit neutral by stealing from Medicare, contributing to it's insolvency.
7/13/2010 4:08:40 PM
oh yeah, that's how they got the last few stragglers to support itbut the bigger ideas (like a public option) were total non-starters with vast swaths of Democrats and all Republicans

I realize that some of you may want to avoid reality. But I'm just passing along the facts--and I'm not even being nasty about it. .I mean, if Obama has lost or is losing Barbara Streisand, this is an indicator that he has lost or is losing an important part of his constituency: those who have money, fame, and the ear of the media. I'm sure that many of you will poo-poo the Streisand thing ("WHO CARES?!!1"), but you may not fully grasp that she is a liberal icon and has been for many decades. ^Interesting to hear leftists criticizing Obama's economic policy as being anti-business and encouraging laziness and profligacy. Especially when Krugman is still screaming, "SPEND SPEND SPEND!"I would've expected them to whine about lack of progress on typical liberal causes.

^^I was AT the Aspen Ideas Festival. Trust me, there was plenty of marijuana marraige and medicinal sodomy. However, it was NOT wholly a liberal event. Colorado has a lot of Libertarians - step outside the town of Aspen and you find yourself amongst the mountain-folk.

^^ Streisand and many other Democrats could simply stay home. It may not have occurred to you, but one-sided voter apathy works in the opponents' favor. Clearly, at this point, the Republicans have a more energized base:Opinion: How can Democrats ignite their voters?07/13/2010

A Horatio Alger Story:Once upon a time in College Park (where they live life fast and they're scared of the dark), there was a little nigga by the name of Kris, no one paid him any mind no one gave a shit.Knowing he could wrap, no one lifted a hand. So he went about his bidness and devised a plan. He made a CD and he hit the block. 50,000 sold $7 a pop.Hold the Phone! 3 years later, he stepped out the swamp with 10 1/2 gators. Now he roams around the world on a microphone and leaves the room smelling like Burberry Cologne. In sum, Haters gonna hate. So do what Banks told you, do ahead and switch the style up and if they hate then let them hate and watch the money pile up.Thank you.[Edited on July 14, 2010 at 2:30 PM. Reason : ``]

Death to America...specifically the concept of the nation of America (the United States of America, not the lesser brown ones or continents) in its present incurably corrupt and unfix-able form. Not to be misconstrued as a threat against any persons alive or dead, in particular those in positions of sufficient power to harass, torture and imprison me. Let me be perfectly clear that in this circumstance and indeed all others I use the word death only in regard to the temporal end of the current abstract notion of our nation state and in no way condone or encourage action or violence against the presently existing power structure and those that fill and encompass such roles, not entirely because that would be a thought crime and I'm a good citizen that voted for you. Or didn't vote at all. Ever. Or never again. Whichever answer results in less persecution. Or execution. Because they can do that now. They execute citizens. Without trial or jury. With predator missiles. They might even get your family too.
